'Golmaal' music lacks variation
By Priyanka Bedi, Indo-Asian News Service

New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) Director Rohit Shetty's "Golmaal - Fun Unlimited" is a soaring comic escapade, which has music by ace composers Vishal-Shekhar, who are
currently riding high on the success of "Blufffmaster" and "Taxi No. 9211".

One would expect the duo to treat music lovers with a mixed bag of romance, techno and hip-hop. However, there are no variations in the album, as the entire soundtrack is
filled with pep and fun with a nostalgic twist added in for flavour.

All in all, there are five tracks in "Golmaal". Up first is "Golmaal golmaal", rendered exquisitely well by ex-Viva member Anushka Manchandani who makes her debut in
playback singing with the song.

From the very beginning, the music directors give a taste of their signature hip-hop style with the foreplay of guitar and electric violin, which blends into the infectious beat
and title rendition. Midway we get to relish Vishal's rap-or-reggae, which he limits wisely.

The next track "Daal mein kaala" initially has traces of "Dus bahaane" from "Dus" but that myth collapses pretty fast. Shaan, K.K. and Vishal, who sang "Dus bahaane",
team for this one too but hardly create the excitement and flare of "Dus" that took the nation by storm.

Although the arrangements are characteristic of the two musicians, the song's drawback is the synchronisation of melody and harmony. If only they had upped the pace of
the tune, the piece would not have the semi-dragging effect that it does.

Enjoyable to an extent, this title track pales compared to its fantastically orchestrated predecessor.

Next is "Aage peeche", one of the best tracks on the lot. The song was in the news for its unique picturisation. Filmed on Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Mukherjee, it has
them dancing in black and white with everything from the sets to the costumes reminiscent of '50s era!

And if you think that would be challenging for a music composer then well guess again! Vishal-Shekhar pull off a sensational performance while bringing the golden era into
the 21st century.

Rendition by Sneha Pant is fabulous, not to mention Shekhar's comical alterations in his voice to lend his 'nahi nahi' support.

Simply a flawless number in every way! .
