No way I'd miss Jaya's swearing-in, says Amitabh
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service

Mumbai, July 23 (IANS) Though mid-way through his shooting for B.R. Chopra's "Baabul" in London, Amitabh Bachchan says he will definitely be in India during wife
Jaya's swearing-in as Rajya Sabha member once again.

The swearing-in, scheduled for Monday, is a big moment that he cannot miss.

And Amitabh plans to make the impossible happen. He flies out of London for barely 48 hours just to share the important moment in his wife's life.

"I leave for Mumbai on Sunday, then proceed to Delhi to attend Jaya's swearing-in ceremony. Then I am back immediately after on Tuesday in London to resume the
shooting of 'Baabul'," Amitabh told IANS from London.

Jaya, Samajwadi Party MP, was disqualified from the Rajya Sabha in March over simultaneously holding an office of profit as chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film
Development Corporation. She resigned from the Uttar Pradesh body. In June, she was re-elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha.

Unfortunately, son Abhishek won't be able to leave Durban where the tightly-packed schedule for the climax of Sanjay Gadhvi's "Dhoom 2" is being shot.

After completing his London schedule, Amitabh returns to Mumbai on July 28 to attend to other pending assignments .

How does he manage it?

"You must understand work is his god. You cannot take his work away from him. Sure he has had a health setback. But he knows he can't take it easy. To him that would
mean a kind of defeat that he can't take," said one of Amitabh's keenest admirers and friends.

"Amit-ji has today out-distanced every legend of show business in the country. He is still comparatively young. And look at the energy level. Look at how he matches steps
with Aishwarya Rai and his son in 'Kajra re'," said Gulzar, noted lyricist and filmmaker.

As usual Amitabh is nonchalant at the observations and said: "I don't sit and think about how much I have done. There is too much to do. A commitment is a commitment.
As long as I am getting good work I'll continue.

"After this schedule of 'Baabul', I am again back in London at the end of August. As for Jaya's swearing into the Rajya Sabha, there is no way I'd miss that.

Jaya Bachchan takes oath as Rajya Sabha member again
Indo-Asian News Service

New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) More than four months after she lost her Rajya Sabha seat, Samajwadi Party MP and actress Jaya Bachchan Monday took oath as a member of
the upper house once again.

Jaya, wearing a bright yellow cotton sari, was administered the oath around 11 a.m. inside the house. Her husband and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who
specially flew in from London to be present on the occasion, and daughter Shweta Nanda, were present in the gallery.

Earlier, Jaya had arrived at the Rajya Sabha in a Lexus accompanied by her husband, daughter and Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh.

Upon their arrival, they were surrounded by a crowd of mediapersons and photographers, but both Amitabh and Jaya refused to answer any questions.

After alighting from the car, Amitabh strode ahead very fast to avoid the media. When he found Jaya lagging behind, he walked back, and putting his arms on her shoulder,
propelled Jaya inside the house.

Samajwadi Party members greeted Jaya inside the house.

Jaya Bachchan was disqualified from the Rajya Sabha in March on the recommendation of the Election Commission on the ground that she was holding an office of profit as
chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Board.

The petition was filed by one Madan Mohan, a losing candidate against her in the election from Uttar Pradesh.

She was again elected unopposed in June.
