Aditya Datt's new film is 'complete
drama'
By Arpana, Indo-Asian News Service
New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS) After the musical hit "Aashiq Banaya
Aapne", director Aditya Datt is ready with yet another romance "Dil
Diya Hai" that he describes candidly as
an entertainer with no message.
"The film is a complete drama. It is a love story with elements
of action. It is a complete entertainer and unlike other movies
we have no messages to give. It is a love story,
which has a triangular feel to it at times."
"Dil Diya Hai" revolves around Neha Dhupia, Emraan Hashmi,
Ashmit Patel and Mithun Chakraborty.
"All the three men unknowingly get connected to each other
through Neha and are responsible in their own ways to bring
about a change and turmoil in Neha's life," Datt told
IANS.
Neha was his first choice and the script was written with her in
mind.
"While writing, I used to think about Neha. I thought she would
fit the role. I knew I would be able to handle her. It is easier
to mould someone new into your character.
"I saw her growing as an actor during the reading and rehearsals
sessions and knew exactly how to extract emotions from her. The
plus point about her is that she is always
eager to learn new things.".
Datt says Neha is an intelligent
actress, who is "constantly thinking about the character". This
helps her get under the skin of the character completely.
"And, of course, she has a really beautiful face."
Surprisingly, Mithun, who gave Kalpana Lajmi a tough time during
the filming of "Chingaari", was "extremely cooperative" with
Datt.
"I really respect Mithun da. He never took me as a young guy who
is fooling around, but respected me as well. Mithun da never
works past 12 in the night but he was
extremely cooperative. Whenever I needed him, he was there. He
worked till 3 a.m. in the morning and next day reported for a
shift from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m."
Datt says that the senior actor is playing his age in the film.
"Mithun da is playing a key role. His character Rony is close to
his age and maturity. We did not do any experiments with his
role. He is playing a matured character, very
much like his own self."
Datt is repeating Emraan in the film: "When I was writing the
story I felt that Saahil is Emraan and only he can do justice to
the role."
Emraan recently announced that he was not going to kiss on
screen any more because it disturbed his girlfriend. To that,
Datt only says: "You will have to wait and watch."
Datt's "Aashiq..." catapulted Himesh Reshammiya into dizzying
heights and he repeats the composer in this film too.
Reshammiya's two prodigies - Vinit Singh and Hemani
Kapoor from Zee TV's talent hunt show "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa" - have
lent their voices to the title song.
"Well this time again the music is done by Himesh. The music
really rocks. Every song is dear to me. All six of them are my
favourites. But there are two fresh voices, Vinit
and Hemani, who are singing the title track."
Datt says he never lacked confidence as a director.
"I have been always confident. Even at the time of 'Aashiq
Banaya Aapne' I was confident; it's just that the learning
differs from film to film. One gets more and more mature
with each film. And, of course, the learning process continues."
