TV stars too have special plans for I-Day
Indo-Asian News Service

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS) From proudly waving the tricolour to visiting school functions and flying kites, celebrities of the small screen have their own individual ways of
celebrating India's Independence Day.

Vaishnavi aka Meera from "Ek Ladki Anjaani Si" is all excited about dressing up her daughter as Mother Teresa for a school function marking the day.

"It reminds me of my days in school. Even I used to sing patriotic songs in school on Aug 15," says Meera.

Karan Mehra of "Shanno Ki Shadi" will be in Delhi and will enjoy himself by flying kites, a popular way of marking the day India became free.

Shital Thakkar, who plays Shubhangi in "Rishton ki Dor", reminisces about her school days and says Aug 15 continues to be relevant even 59 years on. "Independence Day
celebrations in school had a lot of fanfare. This day reminds us of our past struggle and motivates us to play larger roles in building up a new modern India."

Vishal Watwani of "Viraasat" fame too has fond recollections of playing the trumpet for the school band on this particular day.

"I used to rehearse a lot for Independence Day and those moments make me feel so patriotic even today. This time I will visit my son's school for the flag hoisting
ceremony."

This year, Independence Day is followed by Janmashtami (celebration of Lord Krishna's birth) and the stars are all set to observe this auspicious day as well.

Munisha Khatwani of "Sindoor... Tere Naam Ka" is an ardent devotee of lord Krishna and will visit a friend's house to recite verses from the Bhagavad Gita (one of the holiest
Hindu scriptures).

"I am a firm believer in Krishna and I read holy books every day. On Janmashtmi, I go to this particular house and read the entire Gita. It is always a rejuvenating experience
for me," said Muisha.

Mreenal Deshraj, who acts in "Kahiin To Hoga", plans to visit the ISKCON temple Aug 16. "It's a ritual, I go every year to wish lord Krishna happy birthday!"

The unit of "Rishton ki Dor" will go one step further and break a dahi-handi (an earthen pot filled with curds) on the set.

"It's not going to be a part of the serial but the crew members will form a human pyramid and then break the dahi-handi. It's going to be great fun," exclaimed Shital.
