Bipasha gets contact lens to host
Seven Wonder event
Leading Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu has finally got herself
contact lens - to set right short-sightedness now that she has
to host a July 7 event in Lisbon to announce the new Seven
Wonders of the World. "All these years I've avoided hosting any
show or any event for the simple reason that I can't read the
tele-prompter. I'm short sighted. Now history beckons me. And if
I don't
correct my vision now, history and my conscience would never
forgive me," Bipasha told IANS.
She said she has now corrected her vision."I've got myself
contact lenses this week -- at the age of 28! All these years I
stubbornly avoided it. "But now when I was given the great
privilege of hosting the event at Lisbon along with the likes of
Ben Kingsley and Hillary Swank, I'd be foolish to not correct my
eyesight. I can see everything so much clearly now..." The
actress says she is amazed that she has been chosen to host the
show but added that it was a great honour for her.
"I don't know what made them choose me, maybe it was my
appearance at Cannes last month. But I suddenly got a call from
them. I'm deeply honoured and flattered. This is the first time
since 200 B.C. that the 7 Wonders are being reconsidered. To be
part of this is to be part of history," she said.Bipasha will
sport Armani and Rocky S outfits during the event. "It would be
my dear friend Rocky S for the Indian outfit, and that's a saree.
Armani will do my Western outfit, and destiny will take care of
the rest."
Bipasha to join John in Pondicherry to scotch
rumours
To make it amply clear that their
relationship is as strong as ever, Bollywood screen scorcher
Bipasha Basu is flying to Pondicherry June 27 to join her
boyfriend John Abraham
Bipasha flies in and out of Cannes
By Subhash K. Jha,
Mumbai, May 24 Bipasha Basu made it to Cannes, but
unfortunately got to spend no time at all at the famed
French Riviera town - no shopping, no sightseeing, no
swimming and no meeting Jude Law either! The actress
visited the prestigious film festival a week ago with
boyfriend John Abraham to promote their upcoming venture
"Goal", in which she plays a Pakistani doctor.
"It was like not being there! I wasn't at Cannes Film
Festival for even a full day. This was my first trip to
Cannes and I'd have liked to see and experience more. I
landed with John in the morning and was out by
evening. All I had time was the press events for our
film 'Goal'. That's it," Bipasha told IANS."No
sightseeing, no shopping. I'm a major shopaholic, though
I like to buy stuff for others and not just for myself.
And, of course, I'd have liked to swim and relax," she
added. She says the worst blow was that she missed
meeting her favourite actor Jude Law.
"John met him at a party hosted by Nike for another
football film at the festival. I couldn't attend.
"The ambience is very likeable not just for movie buffs
but anyone who wants to shop or simply stroll by the
riverside. I got to do none of that. In fact, I was
supposed to start shooting for Abbas-Mustan's 'Race'
early morning after landing late the previous evening.
"Fortunately for me, they were gracious enough to
postpone the morning shift by a few hours. Thank god for
such considerate souls. I don't know what I'd have done
otherwise," said the busy actress who has had to cancel
her holiday to Goa because of her schedules."Goa will
just have to wait until I've a little breathing space.
Right now with so much travelling I don't know whether
I'm coming or going. I've another goal to achieve at the
moment," she puns. The actress says she didn't make any
preparations for her role in "Goal"."What preparations
did I make to play a Pakistani girl? Nothing! Aren't
working women all over the world the same in dress,
attitude and gender relations? I kept my makeup o the
minimum, just dabbed some kajal in my eyes and picked up
my medi-bag to take care of the injured souls on the
field."Bipasha is thrilled with Hollywood icon Richard
Gere singling her out for praise on Karan Johar's chat
show "Koffee With Karan" and describing her as bright,
hot and desirable."I'm not just flattered. I'm
flattened! If someone as sinfully good-looking and
amazingly cute as Gere thinks that way about me, I don't
mind missing Jude Law. Strangely, I haven't met Gere
that much. "Though I've made it clear to Parmeshwar
Godrej that I'm constantly available for any
AIDS-related work on the field, I generally shy away
from the charity dinners Gere
attends. Such do's are don't for me. I'm not a social
butterfly at all," said the actress who has been
labelled the hottest bikini babe in Bollywood. "Have I?"
she laughed. "I don't mind being called a bikini babe. I
guess I looked right in a bikini in 'Dhoom 2'. I know
and so do my fans that I can pull off anything, from a
suit-clad 'Corporate' to a bikini in 'Dhoom 2'. Looking
hot is a good thing, I guess."If she had one wish right
now what would she like? "I wish I was one of the
footballers in 'Goal' instead of sitting on the bench.
And if you give me one more wish, I wish I had met Jude
Law at Cannes."
I'm
not conscious about my body: Bipasha (INTERVIEW)
The bootylicious Bipasha
Basu, whose bikini-clad appearance in Bollywood
blockbuster "Dhoom 2" has set audience pulses soaring,
says she is "not at all conscious" about her body.
About "Dhoom 2", she said: "I saw the first 'Dhoom' four
times in 15 days. And not because John was in it. I
haven't seen any of John's other films so many times. 'Dhoom'
is 'today'. It's a youthful brand title. I want to see 'Dhoom
2' also four times in 15 days. However, Bipasha admitted
that her experience with first co-star Kareena Kapoor
during the making of "Ajnabee" was "rather funny".
Bipasha Basu to launch her own website
Bipasha Basu has found herself a new
source of excitement - a website of her own with regular updates
on her life. Bipasha, who is as excited as she was when she
signed her first film, says: "It will be maintained entirely by
me. And it will have regular, almost daily updates of my life...
Bipasha getting funny with Akshay and Paresh
Mumbai, Bipasha Basu, who plays the female lead in the comedy "Phir Hera Pheri", admits it took her a while to break the ice with her co-stars - Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal.
"Initially, it was a problem when Akshay or Paresh cracked jokes but once I got into the mood and started enjoying their jokes, it became a lot easier," said
Bipasha who will be seen sharing her experiences on ETC's chat show to be aired at 8.p.m Thursday.
According to Bipasha, comedies are stress busters. She said: "After a hard day's work most people like to watch something funny and what better way to get entertained than with a funny film."
Asked how funny the film really is, she said: "It definitely is really funny. Even the songs in the film have comic timing. I am doing an item number with Akshay which is also very funny."
"I have seen the first film 'Hera Pheri'. And it is really funny. This is a sequel to the original 'Hera Pheri' but it starts from where the first one ended."
Bipasha, who was seen in one of the biggest hits of 2005, "No Entry", says it is unjust to label an actor.
"An actor is an actor and we can not label anybody as 'more funny'. Akshay is great and Paresh does have good timing.
"I wanted to do comedy because it is something new to me. In 'No Entry', I was more of the glamour quotient than a funny one. I have never done this kind of comedy before."
Though Bipasha is not a great movie buff, she enjoys comic flicks.
"Although I am not a movie buff, I have watched 'Andaz Apna Apna' and 'Jane Bhi Do Yaaron' several times. I have also seen 'Hera Pheri' quite a few times."
