Kerala's top literary award for ex-professor

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 14 (IANS) Fifty-nine-year-old K. Sachidananthan, a former college professor, was Friday selected for Kerala's most prestigious literary award.

"The Vayalar Rama Varma Award has been given to Sachidananthan for his collection of poems titled Sakshyangal," M.K. Sanu, president of the Vayalar Rama Varma Trust told a news conference here. 

Sachidananthan was a professor at the Christ College, Irnjalakuda in Trissur district.

He was also the editor of "Indian Literature," a publication of Sahitya Akademi. Several of his literary pieces have been translated into other languages.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs.25,000 and a citation.
