Donate blood, get free Navratri passes

Ahmedabad, Sep 27 (IANS) Navratris are round the corner. And one garba organiser in Gujarat has found a unique way to mix merry-making with a noble cause. 

A group called Thanganaat in Porbandar is offering free season passes to their nine-day garba event, to anyone who donates a bottle of blood. More than 125 donors, mostly youngsters, donated blood Monday. Their intention, however, was definitely not to avail free passes.

"I am here to donate blood for children with thalassemia. Getting a free pass is definitely not my objective," says Bhumika Solanki, a young donor.

Said Hiten Dholakia, the organiser of the event: "We have conducted this camp to help thalassemia patients and make people more aware about the disease. Since our group regularly organises garba, we thought of offering a free pass for the event to each blood donor as a gift."

The Navratri festival will begin Oct 3.
