New head of Gujarat's literary institution elected
Indo-Asian News Service
Ahmedabad, Oct 6 (IANS) Famous Gujarati comic writer Bakul Tripapthi was Thursday elected president of the prestigious literary institution - the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad in an election held after 14 years.
Tripathi defeated Jayant Pandya, a well-known writer in the vernacular language, by 510 votes. Out of total 3,065 members, only 1,307 voters turned up for voting.
He will take over charge from Dhirubahen Patel during the Parishad's convention at Mumbai in December.
"There are lot of challenges in spreading creativity and sentiments of the perceptive audience," he said.
Tripathi, after having an elaborate career in different fields, stands among the top ranking writers in Gujarati.
The Parishad is celebrating its centenary this year.
