Foreign dancers to perform at Vibrant Gujarat inauguration
Indo-Asian News Service
Gandhinagar, Sep 28 (IANS) Vibrant Gujarat, the state government's annual festival to be held next week, will feature dancers from four countries.
Around one hundred dancers from Puerto Rico, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka performed at a preview organised here Wednesday ahead of the inaugural ceremony of the official festival Oct 3.
Drumbeats and quick foot movements impressed the audience when the Sri Lankan group came on the stage.
"Though our troupe performs many forms of Sri Lankan dances, we are going to present three forms - Thelme, Ves dance and Pandam Paliya - the dance with fire," said Sri Lankan troupe manager Prabath Udakara.
"We will perform Bhairav Kali, Jhavare and the peacock dance. We will get back right away as we want to celebrate the festival at home," said an official with the 27-member Nepalese troupe.
The western dance stole the show at last. The 32-member Puerto Rican troupe performed their Cachita dance playing a natural instrument of Cuatro. The group had to perform thrice on demand from the viewers.
Vibrant Gujarat, organised by the state government, coincides with the traditional nine-day dance festival of garba.
