Indo-Asian News Service
Gandhinagar, Oct 5 (IANS) The Gujarat government Wednesday invited entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in the tourism sector in the state.
Addressing a seminar on tourism development, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam chairman P.K. Laheri called upon entrepreneurs and tour operators to join hands with the state government to develop tourism infrastructure in the state.
The one-day seminar, organised here in the state capital, was part of the ongoing state-sponsored Vibrant Gujarat celebrations.
"Gujaratis are spread over 120 countries in the world. They have an urge to see the world, but now this is the time to show Gujarat to the world," said Laheri.
The participants also emphasised the need to develop infrastructure suitable for tourism to develop in the state.
"As many as 42 percent of the foreign tourists visiting India come to see the culture and heritage. In order to provide good hospitality to them, we need to have more trained labour in this area," said Kavita Sood, a tourism management teacher.
The state government's announcement to celebrate 2006 as Tourism year would boost the developing tourism industry in Gujarat, said state's tourism secretary R.M. Patel.
Leading tour operators, senior government officials and academicians participated in the seminar.
The Gujarat government is organising a series of seminars on various aspects of tourism as part of the ongoing Vibrant Gujarat Navratri festival.
Vibrant Gujarat, in its third year now, coincides with the popular, nine-day Navaratri dance festival that began Tuesday.
