Amitabh's Kannada film strikes a chord
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service
Mumbai, Dec 31 (IANS) It isn't too often that a regional film strikes a chord beyond its home territory. A hit Kannada film-starring superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Sammir Dattani which opened here, has the rare distinction of having crossed the linguistic barrier.

Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar's "Amrithdhare" which has Bachchan in a guest appearance opened at two theatres (Fun Republic and Arora) in Mumbai.
For Bachchan, it is again a first as it is the only South Indian film where he has made an appearance.
The film is a heartwarming marital drama about a newly married couple (Husband Dhyaan and wife Spandana) and their splendid struggle to come to terms with the wife's terminal illness. The movie ends with Dhyaan going all-out to fulfill his beloved wife's dying wish to meet her idol Amitabh Bachchan!
Sammir, shooting for Mani Shankar's new thriller in Hyderabad, said: "I am too young to understand the workings of a marriage.
"And still I am told my performance as the husband was convincing. And to have shared screen space with Amitabh Sir so early in my career was a dream come true.
"Actually I don't look at 'Amrithdhare' as a regional film. The theme of love marriage and tragedy are universal."
"Amrithdhare" with English subtitles is being distributed in Mumbai by Rajshri films who launched Sammir in Hindi films.
