Crest animation bags $18 mn deal with French firm

Mumbai, May 30 (IANS) Crest Animation Studios Limited, one of India's leading animation studios, has signed an $18 million deal with a French production house for a 52 episode children's TV serial in English that will be aired worldwide.

The complete deal between Crest and renowned French firm Marathon includes pre and post production with a project size of $18 million, a company statement said Tuesday. 

"The Marathon deal has enabled Crest to venture into new geographies and diversify its client base, from the US and Canadian markets to the European markets, especially for animated television serials," the statement said.

"Crest will be doing the entire production of the 52-episode English series for children in the age group of 6-11 years," added A.K Madhavan, CEO of Crest Animation Studios.

Marathon is a world renowned player in drama and documentaries, besides animation. It has grown to become a top distributor of programming for broadcasters and video distributors around the world.

Crest Monday moved to a new 45,000 sq ft state-of-the-art digital studio in Ghatkopar in Mumbai to accommodate the company's expansion plans.

The company plans to move up the value chain from work for hire into production of full length 3D animation feature films, meant for a global audience.

"The new facility would enable our animators to work in a world class state-of-the-art facility. The move to the new facility, which can house about 750 animators (with two shift operations), will help us to meet our expanding order book," Madhavan said.

Crest has made its presence in global television computer animation space through TV serials like "Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks" and "Pet Alien".
