His initiative has come after a recent government announcement of a three-year tax rebate to private investors who set up multiplexes in the state.
"We have decided that the work on building multiplexes will commence from March this year and few multiplexes will be ready by next year," Jha told IANS here Saturday after attending the concluding function of the seven-day-long Patna Film Festival.
"After the present state government invited private investors to open multiplexes and modern theatres in Bihar, interest grew among several investors," he said.
Last month Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi sought the help of Prakash Jha in wooing investors. Jha campaigned for Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) during the state assembly polls in October-November last year. He is now leading the multiplex initiative in the state.
Jha, who hails from a village near Bettiah, the district headquarters of West Champaran, is known for his films exposing Bihar's feudal, caste-ridden society and criminal-politician nexus. His major successes include - "Mrityudand", "Gangaajal" and "Apaharan".
