Former Salman Khan aide arrested

Mumbai, March 12 (IANS) Police here claimed to have achieved a breakthrough in their probe into a 2002 hit-and-run case involving Bollywood star Salman Khan with the arrest early Sunday of his former aide, reportedly the sole witness to the incident.

Ravindra Patil, a former police constable and Salman's former bodyguard, was arrested from a hotel in the hill station of Mahabaleshwar, 250 km southeast of here.
The arrest was made after a non-bailable warrant was issued against Patil when he failed to appear for the trial in the case in which Salman is accused of killing one person and injuring four others when he rammed his vehicle into a bakery in suburban Bandra Sep 28, 2002.
Patil had earlier appeared as a witness twice but then failed to appear on five consecutive occasions. He was remanded in police custody and will be produced in court Monday.
