'Ek Main...' contestant's crassness stumps everybody
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service

Mumbai, April 6 (IANS) Reality television turned a crass corner when "Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Ek Main Aur Ek Tu" participant Vishwanath made an utterly vulgar comment about his singing partner Raktima.

It was the Allahabad versus Ahmedabad special, which will be aired Thursday and the latter decidedly came out looking embarrassed.

Reliving the nightmare, Gajendra Singh, producer-director of "Ek Main Aur Ek Tu", told IANS: "We were all stumped. Why did Vishwanath do it? We have no clue. But he made the most vulgar remark about his singing partner. To the girl's credit, she held her peace on camera. But she blasted Vishwanath later."

"We were all aghast. Our judge Hariharan got up and rushed to hit the boy, and rightly so. We had to stop him. Our guest judge Alka Yagnik-ji was speechless."

Apparently, Vishwanath's crass comment was a result of professional jealousy.

"There's another contestant, Biswas from Allahabad, who does beautiful 'sher-o-shayari' on every episode. That's what he did during Monday's recording. To be one-up on Biswas, Vishwanath decided to make his crude comment. Little did he know all hell would break loose...

"Ever since it happened, Vishwanath has been crying and begging everyone - from me to Hariharan-ji to Alka-ji to his singing partner - for forgiveness. Frankly I am in a jam," said Singh.

Singh is unsure whether he should telecast the boy's misconduct and thereby ruin the boy's singing career, or edit the fracas out.

"I know I'll be accused of sensation-mongering. But I have no choice but to retain the pandemonium during recording. It's the only way I can justify Vishwanath's expulsion from 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu'," said Singh.
