'Ice Age 2' to help movie-lovers beat summer heat

Mumbai, April 19 (IANS) "Ice Age 2: The Meltdown", which is set to help Indian audiences beat the summer heat, features a potential love interest for the woolly mammoth that propelled the original movie to huge success.

Film star Ray Romano, who lent his voice to Manny the woolly mammoth in the original "Ice Age" and its sequel, said: "I think the audience wants to see what happens to him. And we do in 'Ice Age 2'.
"We see another chapter in his life, you know, not to give it away. But he goes to another place. And, of course, there's a lot of adventure and craziness," Romano said in a statement.
Throwing light on Manny's love interest, Romano said: "There is a potential love interest for Manny in this movie. You know, in 'Ice Age' he was mourning over the loss of his family. And I guess he's been kind of lonely.'"
Manny again teams up with his friends - Sid the sloth and Diego the sabre-toothed tiger - in the sequel.
"It took a while for me to get used to doing this, the performing like this, because you are recording in a studio in front of the microphone, and normally without the other actors there," Romano said.
"So you are bound, you are doing it with the director. And you are trying to assume the timing and anticipate what the other actor will be doing. And you don't see it until you see it at the premiere.
"It's amazing when it all works and it all comes together with the animation and music and the sound and everything, but it took some getting used to for me," he said.
"Ice Age 2" is replete with comedy, action and spectacular visuals. The unyielding friendship between the three heroes lives on with some memorable new characters thrown into the mix.
However, the second part of the film, where director Carlos Saldanha tries to address global warming and other ecological problems, sees the end of the Ice Age.
New cast members include Academy Award-nominee Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, late night talk show host Jay Leno, Will Arnett and Josh Peck.
John Leguizamo and Denis Leary also pitch in for the sequel.
