Vishal, Shekhar appear on 'Indian Idol'
By Subhash K. Jha, Indo-Asian News Service
Mumbai, April 7 (IANS) When actor Akshaye Khanna and director Satish Kaushik opted out of the judging slots of TV show "Indian Idol" at the last minute, music composers Vishal and Shekhar sportingly stepped into their shoes.

"We were very happy to have Vishal and Shekhar as judges this week, mainly because it's always more entertaining to have musicians who know what they're talking about," says a Sony source.
The Vishal-Shekhar duo, which has judged TV music contests before, bailed out a critical episode where one of the three finalists - Karunya, Anuj and Sandeep - had to go.
Says Shekhar: "I think music contests like 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' and 'Indian Idol' are doing a fantastic service to the music industry. The talent being served up is truly outstanding. We've served as judges on 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' before, but this was our first time on 'Indian Idol'."
Doesn't Shekhar feel there should be contests to discover composing talent?
"I don't think so. There're enough composers. We need more singers," Shekhar told IANS.
Also, Vishal-Shekhar will not charge for the 'Indian Idol' judging. "Farah Khan (director and one of the judges on the show) called us and asked us to be on the show, that's it," says Shekhar.
