Sachin's bat, Mandira's sari on auction for charity
Indo-Asian News Service
Mumbai, Nov 24 (IANS) Sachin Tendulkar's autographed cricket bat, Sunil Gavaskar's T-shirt, commentator Mandira Bedi's sari and other sports celebrity memorabilia have been put on auction to raise money for aspiring underprivileged cricketers.
Leading online auction site eBay and film distributors Kult One have joined hands in a venture to help the young cricketers by channelising the proceeds of the auction towards them.
The exclusive memorabilia have been donated by cricket celebrities for a charitable cause and were put on auction Wednesday night on the eBay website www.ebay.in/charity.
Making the announcement at the premiere of the Hollywood movie "Wondrous Oblivion" by Oscar nominee Paul Morrison, Kult One founder-chairman Viveck Varma said former Indian Test captain Dilip Vengsarkar would guide the youngsters.
"(Dilip) Vengsarkar has always been associated with helping aspiring cricketers though it is not known to many. So he was very forthcoming in playing the role of a guide apart from identifying talent," Varma said.
"We believe that a movie should absorb the viewer into its world, leaving her or him to end a slightly changed person than before. 'Wondrous Oblivion' and our cause are steps in that direction," he added.
Kult One, whose maiden venture "Wondrous Oblivion" will be released Friday, will also donate two percent of the revenue generated from the movie.
