Accused in model's rape to appear in court

Mumbai, Jan 10 (IANS) The two men arrested for raping a South African model and aspiring Bollywood actress here last month will appear before a city court Friday, police said.

The two accused men - Sunil Morpani and Suresh Krishnani - were identified by the victim, a 27-year-old Durban-based woman of Indian origin, in an identification parade last week.
The investigation into the case was transferred to the crime branch earlier this week.
A senior official of Mumbai Police's crime branch said the men would remain in custody until their court appearance Friday.
The two are accused of drugging the woman at the Bawa International Hotel and taking her to two other hotels where they repeatedly raped her. Police had claimed Jan 2 that the two had confessed to the crime.
The hearing on Friday is a mandatory appearance and the suspects would not be asked to plead, police said. The next step for the police would be to file charges depending on the progress of the investigation.
