Esha-Hema to act together

Mumbai, May 22 (IANS) Actress Esha Deol is all set to share screen space with her mother Hema Malini in an untitled film to be produced by Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd.

"We are bringing Hema and Esha together in a film that will be made by the end of this year," Pritish Nandy told IANS.

"Ankahee" is Esha's recent release and it is now clear that she is not playing director Vikram Bhatt's ex-girlfriend Sushmita Sen in it.

Remember Hema's unforgettable montage in "Tere Mere Sapne" of weeping into a half-open refrigerator after she comes to know that the man she loves is married? 

In "Ankahee", the role of a hyper-agitated actress who has an affair with her married physician is inspired by Vijay Anand's 1971 semi-classic "Tere Mere Sapne" where Dev Anand played a married doctor who has an affair with an actress. 

Interestingly "Tere Mere Sapne" was inspired by A.J. Cronin's classic novel "The Citadel". 

In "Tere Mere..." Mumtaz and Hema Malini played the wife and the actress' role respectively. After 35 years, Esha steps into her mother's role in Bhatt's film.

"I am not denying the similarities between our film 'Ankahee' and 'Tere Mere Sapne'. That was a wonderful film and a lot of people have noticed the similarities between Hema's role and Esha's role," said Nandi. 

"Hema was a wonderful actress and she did a great job of her small part in 'Tere Mere Sapne'. Esha has a far more substantial role in 'Ankahee' and she is amazing. Nothing she has done so far will prepare audiences for her performance in 'Ankahee'," he added.

Esha was chosen for the role of the unstable actress after watching her in Harry Baweja's "Main Aisa Hi Hoon". 

Nandi says comparison between Esha and her mother is unjust. "That would be unfair. It's time we give the star-kids a chance to come into their own."
 

Esha's Miss World dream comes true in 'Ankahee'

Mumbai, April 19 (IANS) Esha Deol is "excited" to play a beauty queen in Vikram Bhatt's film "Ankahee" as it brings her a crown she has never worn in real life.

"I am playing Miss World in the film, which I didn't get to do in real life. This is exciting," said Esha, who was picked up by the ETC Music Channel as the 'ETC Haseena of the month'.

The TV show to be aired Thursday 8 p.m. will repeat the telecast on Friday at 1.30 p.m.

"I have been waiting for a solo lead role for a long time. This film gives me the opportunity. The whole story revolves around me," she reportedly told the channel.

Esha plays the other woman in "Ankahee", which is allegedly based on a past relationship between Bhatt and actress Sushmita Sen, who won the Miss Universe title in 1994.

Esha's co-star in the film is Aftab Shivdasani - playing Bhatt in the film - with whom she worked in her debut film "Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe".

"Aftab was my first co-star and now he is working with me after a long time. We both have improved so much with time," she said.

About her fitness regime, yesteryear star Hema Malini's daughter said: "I go to the Barbarian Gym here and dance a lot to keep myself fit." 

About her resemblance to her mother, she quipped: "It is good to resemble someone who is so pretty."
