Pakistan fashion designers to help quake-victims
DPA
Islamabad, Oct 20 (DPA) Industry leaders from Pakistan's fashion world have drawn up a six-month calendar of activities aimed at helping the victims of the Oct 8 earthquake that has killed over 40,000 people.
Mussarat Misbah, the owner of a fashion boutique in Lahore, the centre of Pakistan's film industry, told the Daily Times that several designers and photographers have agreed to join hands for the rehabilitation of the quake victims.
"The participants decided that it was better to work as a team rather than making individual efforts," Misbah said.
The group has also decided to rehabilitate a village in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and will start fund-raising events in different parts of the country, Misbah said.
Selling design products at discounted prices, fashion exhibitions and educational programmes would be part of the fund-raising campaign.
Film and TV stars are already touring through Pakistan to raise funds for the reconstruction of thousands of devastated villages and towns in northern Pakistan, spread over more than 20,000 sq km.
Rebuilding will require at least $5 billion and could take up to 10 years to complete, according to government and UN estimates.
