Rahul Gandhi relishes Hyderabadi cuisine
Indo-Asian News Service
Hyderabad, Oct 22 (IANS) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi got to savour Hyderabad's famous cuisine, especially biryani, during his two-day visit to the state.
Winding up his private visit Saturday, Gandhi had lunch at the residence of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy here. Ending speculation on whether he would meet the chief minister or not, Gandhi drove to his residence and spoke to him over lunch.
On Friday night, the young leader paid a surprise visit to Paradise Hotel, a well-known restaurant in nearby Secunderabad, and had dinner with some of his close friends.
The management of the hotel as well as the customers were surprised when the son of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi strolled in unannounced.
Security personnel of the Special Protection Group had a tough time in controlling the crowd and nobody was allowed to get close to the leader or take photos. After Gandhi entered the restaurant, no one was allowed in.
P. Somi Reddy, manager of Paradise Hotel, said Gandhi and his five friends ordered various dishes and relished Hyderabadi food. He and other friends ate rotis, butter chicken, chicken tikka kababs and the lip-smacking mutton biryani, running a bill of Rs.1,800.
He said the VIP and his friends spent 45 minutes in the restaurant and luckily for the management there were not many customers at that time.
During his visit, Gandhi toured villages near Hyderabad to know about the micro finance groups comprising women. No Congress leader was allowed to meet him during the visit.
