Niki Mahajan label in Kuwait; Lebanon, Turkey next

Kuwait, Sep 22 (IANS) The grandeur of Nawabi Lucknow to fine tussar silks of West Bengal are on display and sale here with Indian designer Niki Mahajan opening her doors in the city Thursday, with the promise of a grand fashion show next month.
The store, in the heart of central Kuwait's fashion district - often referred to as Paris of the Middle East - targets the Arab royalty and exclusive families with a line specially dedicated to this part of the world.
Mahajan has given extensive styling, draping and fresh new dimension to silks, dupions, tussars, matka, and shipley, while embroidered cottons also form the basis of trousers and skirts. Every silhouette has interesting detailing.
Winner of Indian textile ministery's Yuv Ratan (young gem) award for excellence in promoting the production of unique fabrics, Mahajan has chosen transparent and multi-dimensional fabrics in pure silks and cottons for her first show.
Each piece also has accessorising and embroidery, with carefully crafted belts, scarves, bags, and shoes to compliment the clothes. The printing techniques used include hand block printing, textures, spray-painting, and hand painting.
The designer, who has devoted decades to discover the legacy of fashion in India - from Rajasthan and Gujarat to Bihar and Assam - will now target in Lebanon and Turkey with two more stores by the end of this year, her associates said.
