Dan Brown wins court battle over 'Da Vinci Code'
DPA
London, April 7 (DPA) American author Dan Brown did not breach the copyright of an earlier book in his best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code", a court here ruled Friday.
The high court rejected the claims of Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh, who wrote the 1982 book "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail", and sued Random House, publisher of both books.
Brown, who was not present when the verdict was delivered, said in a statement the ruling showed that "this claim was utterly without merit".
"I'm still astonished that these two authors chose to file their suit at all," said the statement by the 42-year-old writer.
The ruling clears the way for the "Da Vinci Code" movie to come out in May.
Both books explore the theory that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had a child and that the bloodline survives to this day.
