No more reality shows, says
Andrew Webber
Los Angeles, April 22 English composer of musicals
Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber says he will not do part three of
reality show "Joseph: Any Dream Will Do" for BBC as he wants to
devote his time and energy to write a new musical.
Announcing that there would be no follow-up to "Joseph", which
came on the heels of "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?"
last year, Webber said he wants to concentrate on writing a
sequel to his hit musical "Phantom Of The Opera". He has
tentatively titled it "Phantom Of Broadway".
"I need to get back to writing. I want to throw myself into it.
Over the Easter weekend I wrote the first song and I'm really
pleased with it," www.hollywood.tv quoted Webber as saying.
Webber also has received offers from the US, where TV networks
want him to stage a theatrical reality show, particularly his
"Jesus Christ Superstar".
"I'd love to do a search for Jesus, but the BBC couldn't do
that. It's probably against editorial policy. I'd have to do it
in the US," said Webber.
But making a series in Los Angeles is not for him.
"I've told them I'll think about it, but only if it was in New
York. Broadway is the heart of theatre in the US," he said,
adding that he doesn't want to make a long-term move to the US.
"My kids are here and I wouldn't want to miss them growing up,"
he explained.
Meanwhile, he's already lined up "Funny Girl" for Connie Fisher,
last year's "Maria" winner.
"She'd be great," he said. "She's like Barbra Streisand in the
way she moves, a bit awkward."
Stone wants US troops out of Iraq
Los Angeles, April 22 Academy Award winning
director Oliver Stone has been roped in to make a
commercial film for a campaign that calls for US troops to
be pulled out of Iraq.
Conceived by the MoveOn and VoteVets, the campaign will
feature a US serviceman or woman or their relatives who
will discuss the impact the war has had on them, reports
www.hollywood.tv
Without saying categorically that he wants American troops
out of Iraq, Stone said: "America needs to listen to our
servicemen and women. We have leaders in Washington who
say they're 'supporting our troops' but the people who
suffer most from their policies are the troops themselves.
"I decided to participate in this project because, as a
veteran, I know that America needs to listen to our
servicemen and women. They've been there and they know
what's really going on. They need to be part of this
debate."
The serviceman or woman or family slated to appear in the
commercial will be chosen from approximately 20 finalists
in an online vote.
Videos of the candidates will appear on MoveOn's website
and the video-sharing site YouTube.
"Stories from veterans and family members have poured in
over the past few years, and we wanted to provide a
platform where they could speak directly to the American
people and policy-makers," said Nita Chaudhary of MoveOn.
After winning a Purple Heart while serving as a US
infantry private in the Vietnam War, Stone later used his
first hand experiences as the basis for his Oscar-winning
film "Platoon".
Since then, his Hollywood career has often fuelled
controversy, with such films as "Born on the Fourth of
July", "JFK", "Natural Born Killers" and "World Trade
Centre".

I love being a dad: Tobey Maguire
Los Angeles, April 22 "Spiderman" star Tobey
Maguire says his life has started moving in a completely
new direction now after his engagement and the birth of
his daughter.
"I've changed a lot," said Maguire, pointing out that
being father to six-month-old Ruby Sweetheart, his
daughter with fiancée Jennifer Meyer, has been the biggest
change of all, www.Hollywood.tv has learned.
The 31-year-old said: "I love being a dad! I love my
daughter... yeah, it's definitely amazing! It's like
everybody says, all the clichés are true - it's
indescribable and you just have to be there to understand
it. You know, you don't really get it until you're there."
"Spider-Man 3" co-star and friend Bryce Dallas Howard has
seen firsthand what being a father has done to Maguire.
"Being a father was even more of a fulfilment of Maguire's
natural instincts," she said. "And the natural way that he
is in the world. And he is just... he is incredible.
"Furthermore, he's committed to the people around him
being happy and being supported and loved," she added.
Having recently given birth to her own nine-week old baby
boy, Theo, she said both Maguire and his fiancée Meyer
were an inspiration during her own pregnancy.
"One of the most important people during my pregnancy was
Meyer, Tobey's fiancée," Howard said.
"She's just an incredibly mindful parent, I mean, they
both are and I really wanted to follow their example in
every way. So I had the same doctor as them, the same
midwife as them, everything because I knew that they did
their research.
"I was calling them just a few days after the birth and he
(Tobey) would stay on the phone with me for like an hour
talking through things with me, and when Jen couldn't talk
because she was nursing. I felt like that was really very
much of a gift for me and my husband."
As he embarks on his new life with a fiancée and baby at
home, Maguire finds himself having to think twice about
the films and the activities he chooses.
"I think that the greatest effect having a baby will have
is on what the locations of movies are, more so than what
the content is, although it may affect my decisions about
the content as well," he said.

Hopkins says success is fluke
London, April 21 Oscar-winning actor Anthony
Hopkins says his career success is due to luck because he
does not believe himself to be a great actor.
According to contactmsic.com, the legendary actor believes
other actors are more skilled than him.
"Most of it was luck. I've never really considered myself
a great actor at all. I look at my contemporaries in the
London theatre, and they're much more skilled than me;
people like Judi Dench. I'm just a kind of fluke," he
said.

Jolie reveals wild past
London, April 21 Hollywood star Angelina Jolie
has revealed more about her wild past including how she
lost her virginity.
Jolie told a British magazine: "I had my first boyfriend
and had sex with him when I was 14. The emotions didn't
feel enough. In a moment of wanting to feel closer to my
boyfriend, I grabbed a knife and cut him. He cut me back.
Then, whenever I felt trapped, I'd cut myself. I have a
lot of scars."
But she clarified that she was never suicidal. "I was
never morbid, let alone suicidal. Though I have never met
any girl who has got such a hobby."
The turning point in her life seems to be when she adopted
her first child Maddox. "That was the biggest change in my
life and made me feel complete. I learned to accept
responsibility for myself, my children and my partner."

Anderson slams TV serials
New York, April 21 "X-Files" actress Gillian
Anderson says she will never star in another TV series and went
on to slam TV in general as harmful to society.
When Anderson was asked in an interview if she would return to
TV, she said: "Oh, shut the (bleep) up! Are you kidding me? My
God, I don't even watch television.
"I don't like television. I never have liked it. The whole
concept of sitting down in front of a TV feels like one of the
things that's destroying society, as far as I'm concerned."
More 'Spider-Man' sequels to be made
By Sheeraz Hasan,
Los Angeles, April 21 Though "Spider-Man 3" is yet
to hit the theatres, director Sam Raimi announced that Sony
Pictures will be making the fourth, fifth and sixth instalment
of the popular film.
Speaking at a Los Angeles press junket, Raimi said he hasn't had
time to think of any involvement and he doesn't want to presume
Sony would want him to direct.
"It'd be very hard to say goodbye to 'Spider Man'," he said.
Meanwhile, the word has been going around that Raimi is
seriously thinking about making "The Hobbit".
The possibility of Raimi directing "The Hobbit" surfaced when
the public quarrel between Peter Jackson and New Line chairman
Bob Shaye left the "Lord of the Rings" prequel without a
director, a fate "Spider-Man 4" could face if Raimi takes the
job.
Raimi has already gone on record, saying: "Peter Jackson might
be the best filmmaker on the planet right now. But, I don't know
what's going to happen next for me right now. First and
foremost, those are Peter Jackson and Bob Shaye's films. If
Peter didn't want to do it, and Bob wanted me to do it - and
they were both okay with me picking up the reins - that would be
great. I love the book. It's maybe a more kid-friendly story
than the others."
For Raimi to direct "The Hobbit" would mean that Columbia is
faced with the choice of either pushing back its production
schedule for "Spider-Man 4" or finding themselves a new
director.
Pitt, Clooney to team up again in new film
Los Angeles, April 21 Brad Pitt and his "Ocean's
Thirteen" co-star George Clooney have agreed to team up again in
the Coen brothers' film "Burn After Reading".
The film, which they will be making for Working Title Films,
also stars Academy Award winner Frances McDormand, reports
www.Hollywood.tv.
The film is a black comedy that tells the story of a CIA agent
who loses the disc of the book he is writing. Not much more is
known about the screenplay, other than that Joel and Ethan Coen
wrote it, nor is it known what role Pitt will play.
Shooting will begin in late August, with Joel Coen directing.
While Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title's will be
producing the film together with the Coens, Focus Features will
handle the worldwide distribution.
With their "Ocean's Thirteen" set to screen at the Festival de
Cannes next month, Pitt has just finished working on Warner
Bros. Pictures' "The Assassination of Jesse James", while
Clooney is currently directing "Leatherheads", a romantic comedy
set in the world of 1920s football.
Geri wants Posh as godmother to her child

The ceremony is being held in North West London's Hampstead,
writes www.Hollywood.tv.
Victoria 'Posh' is flying in from her home in Madrid to attend
the ceremony with seven-year-old son Brooklyn and five year-old
son Romeo. However, little Bluebell's father, scriptwriter Sacha
Gervasi, is not expected to show up.
According to a source, "Victoria was thrilled to be asked to be
godmother.
Although they fell out when Geri walked out on the Spice Girls
years ago, they became really close again. Geri's relied on her
old friend for advice on motherhood and is delighted Victoria is
flying over. Kenny will be godfather, so she will have
interesting godparents."
While Melanie B will not be able to attend, having recently
given birth to her second daughter in Los Angeles, former Spice
Girls Melanie C and Emma Bunton will be attending the ceremony
as well.

According to a source, "J-Lo was booked because both Andrei and
Aleksandra are fans of her. She is flying in specially from LA."

Aleksandra, who has worked for Armani, Gucci, Calvin Klein,
Versace, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, were married two years

Tom Cruise hosts $6,250-per head fund-raiser dinner
Los Angeles, April 21 Actor Tom Cruise hosted a
$6,250-per ticket fund-raiser in Manhattan for a project to help
police, fire fighters and paramedics who suffered health
problems following the 9/11 terror attacks.
The 'New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project', held
Thursday night, is a Scientology-based "detoxification"
programme and relies on heavy doses of vitamins and hours in a
sauna, www.Hollywood.tv has learnt.
Cruise issued a statement before the event defending the
programme, which critics say is nothing more than "medical
hocus-pocus", according to a story in the New York Post.
"This project has demonstrated that recovery is not only
possible, but an incontrovertible fact," Cruise said in the
statement.
More than 780 rescue workers have reportedly accepted treatment
under the programme, for which the city got hundreds of
thousands of dollars in aid.
However, on Wednesday, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg
denounced the programme, asserting that Scientology is "not
science, and we should only fund those programmes that reputable
scientists believe will stand the light of day".
Britney blames parents for bizarre behaviour
Los Angeles, April 21 Pop singer Britney Spears has
blamed her parents for her "out-of-control" behaviour that led
to her stint in a rehab.
Jamie Spears, Britney's father, confirmed that his daughter is
blaming her parents for "where she is at today with her kids and
career", and that she "was out of control" when her bizarre
behaviour landed her in the Malibu-based Promises treatment
facility.
In a statement to Page Six Friday, Jamie sided with Britney's
manager Larry Rudolph, whom a furious Britney fired last Friday
for forcing her into the rehab clinic in February following her
month-long antics in public, including her constant partying,
being photographed in her underwear with New York dancers and
shaving her head.
As Jamie Spears stated: "When Larry Rudolph talked Britney into
going into rehab, he was doing what her mother, father and team
of professionals with over 100 years of experience knew needed
to be done. She was out of control. Larry was the one chosen by
the team to roll up his sleeves and deliver the message, to help
save her life.
"The Spears family would like to publicly apologize to Larry for
our daughter's statements about him over the past few weeks.
Unfortunately, she blames him and her family for where she is at
today with her kids and career. Larry has always been there for
Britney. For this, we will forever be grateful to him."
Britney made the counterclaim through her representative that
her father doesn't "know how to accept a real woman's love", and
said she and her father have "never had a good relationship".
According to a friend of Britney's, she "had no drugs in her
system when she was admitted to Promises - they [tested her] and
there was nothing. She was embarrassed she had to go in there
when she knew she was suffering from postpartum depression, not
a drug or alcohol problem."
And Britney had shaved her head, the friend added, because
"Britney's aunt had just died of cancer. She was feeling very
guilty because she hadn't been there with her, she was
overwhelmingly depressed and she shaved her head in solidarity."
Likewise, a friend of Rudolph's said that, "Britney obviously
has a lot of issues. . . Larry's trying to lay low and letting
her act out, but. . . he doesn't want to see her wind up like
Anna Nicole Smith. He won't get into a public fight with her -
yet. This is about saving her from herself."
