Heather Mills never said yes to reality show
Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 21 (IANS) Heather Mills McCartney, wife of Sir Paul McCartney, has slammed claims that she pulled out of a British TV show to have surgery on her partially amputated leg. She says she had never agreed to star in it.

According to contactmusic.com, Heather was reported to have cancelled plans to appear in "The Games", which pits male and female characters against each other in a series of athletic events, because of a problem stemming from an accident in 1993.

But Heather says she turned down the show when she discovered she would be filmed round the clock.

She says: "I talked to 'The Games' people about entering. I didn't know too much about it but when they explained you have to be in a house for nine days and filmed, I immediately said, 'Excuse me, no'. That's the one reason I didn't do it.

"I just wanted to show kids with disabilities in a quick and easy way what they can do."

Spend Christmas with friends, says White Stripes
Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 21 (IANS) Lead singer of the White Stripes band, Jack White, has advised his fans to abandon reality TV shows at Christmas and enjoy the company of friends and family.

According to contactmusic.com, White believes it is important for people to give respect to people who have made life what it is today, rather than focus on themselves.

He says: "I hope that this year you will take the time off and stop watching reality television for one day to spend some time with your real friends. That's always been my attitude - what right do we have to have our photo taken or our name printed without paying our respects to people who did it first and did it better, giving a platform for people who pay attention and listen to what we do? My first instinct is to play them someone else's song rather than my own."

Blanchett appeals for calm in Sydney
Indo-Asian News Service

New York, Dec 21 (IANS) Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett returned to her native Australia to appeal for calm following the recent race riots in Sydney.

According to Internet Movie Database, Lebanese-Australians and white-Australians have been clashing on the beaches of the New South Wales city, which led to a heavy police presence over the past two weeks. Blanchett spoke out against the riots and urged unity among the communities.

She said: "It's actually very clear and simple. Violence and racism are bad. Whenever they occur they are to be condemned (and) we should not turn a blind eye to them.

"It's about respect. Respect for others, respect for the rights of others and respect of the rights of everyone to go about their lives in a peaceful way."

Voight wants Jolie and Pitt to have kids
Indo-Asian News Service

New York, Dec 21 (IANS) Angelina Jolie's estranged father Jon Voight is urging his daughter to have children with her new boyfriend Brad Pitt, insisting that he has the genes she has been searching for.

According to hollywood.com, Voight is convinced that Jolie decided to adopt her children only after she failed to find the right man to father her babies.

He says: "I'm not sure why she hasn't had her own children. Maybe she hasn't found the right father. I like the look of Brad though. I've got a good feeling about him."

Pitt is currently trying to officially adopt Jolie's kids.

Gyllenhaal speaks out on Ang Lee's cold behaviour
Indo-Asian News Service

New York, Dec 21 (IANS) Actor Jake Gyllenhaal struggled working in Ang Lee's new movie "Brokeback Mountain" because of the director's cold and distant behaviour.

According to hollywood.com, Gyllenhaal said he was shunned by Lee soon after filming started and insists that even co-star Heath Ledger was subjected to his cold defection. But he credits Ang's unconventional approach with making the movie a huge success.

He says: "Ang purposely makes you feel a little uncomfortable. Yesterday, he said to me that he felt so good when making this movie, which is funny because Heath and I were talking about it too and saying how it was really hard for us.

"I don't think good would be the right way to say how we felt when we were making it. Ang disengages with his actors as we start filming. As soon you start shooting he backs off; he just doesn't do anything with you, you're just alone."

Jackson embroiled in possible child abduction case
Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 21 (IANS) Pop superstar Michael Jackson will reportedly face child abduction charges unless he gives his ex-wife Debbie Rowe custody of their children.

According to contactmusic.com, Jackson, currently living in Bahrain with his sons Prince Michael Jr. and Paris, was the focus of a secret hearing in California recently.

Rowe allegedly filed legal papers explaining Jackson's sneaky efforts to take custody of the kids and is now pressing for a court order to bring them home to the US.

Rowe also expressed concern for the safety of the kids while they live with their father.

Elton John weds partner David Furnish
DPA

London, Dec 21 (DPA) British popstar Elton John and his long-term partner David Furnish Wednesday formalised their relationship at a ceremony at Windsor near London.

Elton, 58, and 43-year-old Furnish, who have been together for 12 years, arrived at Windsor Guildhall in a black saloon car with tinted windows and music blaring.

Both clad in dark suits, the couple entered the building, where, in April this year, British heir to the throne Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles were married by the same registrar.

The ceremony uniting Elton and Furnish in a civil partnership was one of nearly 700 similar ceremonies set to take place around England and Wales Wednesday.

A handful of fans gathered outside the town hall, clapping and cheering, but there were no protests.

Only close family members were present at the ceremony, which was followed by a private lunch and a large ball Wednesday evening that will be attended by up to 700 celebrities.

Same-sex unions, which gives gay and lesbian couples similar tax, property and inheritance rights to married couples, became possible in Britain under a new law that came into force Dec 5.

In Northern Ireland and Scotland, ceremonies kicked off earlier this week.

According to official figures, 1,200 same-sex couples in Britain have registered for a civil partnership by the end of the year.
