Rowe has slim chance against Jackson
Indo-Asian News Service

New York, Dec 27 (IANS) Michael Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe has filed a suit against him alleging that their two kids have been unlawfully abducted, but doesn't seem to have a good chance of winning the case.

According to pagesix.com, a lawyer said even if she gets Jackson back to court, "it could be opening a can of worms that will get them both in trouble. Maybe the law will do what it should have done in the first place and take custody away from both of these two".

Rowe had surrendered her parental rights in 2001 but had them restored shortly before Jackson fled the country following his acquittal. Jackson has made it legally difficult for Rowe to get her sons Prince and Paris by shuttling between Bahrain and Dubai. A US court order would be unenforceable in each of these countries since custody decisions are based on Islamic laws. Even if a US court gained jurisdiction it would be difficult for Rowe to prove her case.

Lawyer Raoul Felder says: "The first question would be, 'How did she ever allow these kids to be with Jackson in the first place'?"

Noel Gallagher fears greatest hits album
Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 27 (IANS) Noel Gallagher, lead singer of Oasis, fears Sony Music will "do the dirty" on his band and release a "greatest hits" album next year.

According to ananova.com, Oasis does not want to release a compilation album yet, but this might happen since their contract with Sony ends next year.

He said: "We've come to the end of our contract with Sony. We won't sign with them again. I'm worried they'll cash in and release a best-of. I've always said we'd never do one until we'd split. I think they're going to force our hand. I really wouldn't want to do one, but if they put one out we'll have to get involved otherwise it'll be s***. I hope we don't do one. It's all a scam. You should put one out only when you're finished - in chronological order. But I have a feeling they'll do the dirty on us."

Noel, who has just completed a tour of Australia with Oasis, also said he loved the country and would move there if it was closer to Britain.

"It's like America," he said. "Not that I like America. It's like America weather-wise, but it's not full of fat idiots."

Warner Brothers to open more cinemas in China
Xinhua

Beijing, Dec 27 (Xinhua) Warner Brothers plans to open six new cinemas each year in China over the next few years with locations for the theatres to open next year already selected, a representative for the Hollywood film studio has said.

One of the six theatres expected to open next year will start operation in January in the southwestern municipality of Chongqing, Warner Brothers' public relation representative in China, said.

Others will open Changsha, Beijing, Nanchang, Xiamen and Shenzhen, an official with Ruder Finn Public Relations, the representative said.

Warner Brothers International Cinemas (WBIC) will cooperate with its Chinese partners such as Shanghai Film Group (SFG), Guangzhou Jinji and Shenzhen International Trust & Investment Co in opening the new theatres.

WBIC opened its first cinema in China in cooperation with SFG in Shanghai in 2002.

The two partners opened another cinema in the city of Nanjing, capital of eastern China's Jiangsu province, which increased box office receipts by 48 percent this year as compared with last year.

At present, WBIC has eight cinemas, with 67 screens or 14,449 seats under the company's management and supervision in China. Two of those cinemas opened in 2005.

By the end of November, Chinese box office receipts at these eight cinemas had reached 107 million yuan (US$13.4 million), representing a growth of 81 percent from last year. The total box office receipts for 2005 are expected to exceed 121 million yuan.

WBIC is also planning to set up a Cinema China hall at its theatres to reserve screens exclusively for Chinese films, including those from new directors.

In addition, WBIC will open its first digital multiplex cinema with seven screens in Beijing next year, in a partnership with Guangzhou Jinyi. The plan is now awaiting government approval, the National Business Daily reported.

Bono delighted to prove critics wrong
Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 27 (IANS) Irish rocker Bono says he is thrilled he escaped 'rock star retirement' to re-launch U2 as the best band in the world because it proved his critics wrong.

According to contactmusic.com, Bono admits the band was written off in the 1990s after they experimented with the dance crossover album "Pop". But he refused to let go of his dream of world domination. And then after five years, he re-launched U2 as a serious musical force and is happy that he has silenced critics with his hard work and also becoming the top tour earner of 2005.

He says: "We did all the things we weren't supposed to do to reconnect with the audience. We pressed flesh, we did the photos, we did the circuit, and we sort of came back even though we hadn't really gone anywhere.

"There were those who thought - hoped - that we'd blown it with the 'Pop' album and the Popmart tour. They thought we were off to the fish farm in Wales, the rock star retirement, or the Betty Ford Clinic, the nostalgia shows, isn't that what's supposed to happen? We succeeded, and they hated us for that."

Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 27 (IANS) Rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs has revealed that all his stage name changes were a 'joke'.

According to contactmusic.com, he has been known as Puff Dadd, Puffy and P. Diddy before he recently announced that he wanted to be known as Diddy. But he now claims he doesn't mind what he is called.

He says: "No more name changes, this is it. To be honest, changing my name was just a joke, and you never know how seriously people will take things. You can call me anything you want, to be honest. All of the names - they all apply."

Heath Ledger's gay fears
Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 27 (IANS) Actor Heath Ledger is convinced that playing a gay cowboy in the new movie "Brokeback Mountain" has improved his acting skills.

According to contactmusic.com, his skills improved because simulating romantic love for another man was a completely new experience for him. Ledger had no homosexual history to draw from and found intimate scenes with co-star Jake Gyllenhaal very demanding when he had to make eye contact.

He said: "I didn't really want to kiss Jake. Not only that, but it was hard looking him in the eyes and telling him I loved him. To show love in the eyes for another man is something I've never done. Everything was new about it - so quite obviously there was fear about it."
