Lachey gets travel offer after divorce
Indo-Asian News Service

New York, Dec 26 (IANS) Nick Lachey is getting support from the strangest places after his divorce from Jessica Simpson.

According to New York Post, an online travel agency called OneTravel Holdings, is offering Lachey an all expense-paid package to Las Vegas, including a week's stay at the legendary Rain Main Suite at Caesar's. This is in an effort to get the "bad boy" tendencies out of his system.

This offer came up after Simpson's divorce petition, in which she said she should not have to give any spousal support, became public.

The CEO of OneTravel Will Goldstein said: "We wanted to give Nick Lachey one last chance to ride on someone else's dime."

We would love to kick Bono, says U2
Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 26 (IANS) Irish rockers U2 say they would love to give their lead singer Bono 'a really good kick' but also admit that his perfection will not give them that opportunity.

According to contactmusic.com, the band is frequently frustrated by Bono's busy schedule outside of making music, as well as his outspoken views on poverty and debt in the developing world. But, despite their urgings, Bono's success as an activist silences them.

Drummer Larry Mullen says: "Sometimes I really wish he would do something that we could punch a really big hole into. Sometimes it's just so constant, the meetings, the speaking, the mouth, but in the end even I have to say he's doing a great job, and he's getting things done. Look, if it was possible to have a really good kick at what he does, as a band we would have done it before anyone else."

Blige says America is racist

Indo-Asian News Service

London, Dec 26 (IANS) Singer Mary J. Blige has launched a scathing attack against the US, accusing it of upholding an inherently racist attitude towards non-white citizens.

According to contactmusic.com, Blige says the only way for blacks to be successful is by conforming to white ideals.

She says: "The blacker you are the worse it is for you. If you're mixed, you've got a shot. If you cater for what white America wants you to do and how they want you to look, you can survive. But if you want to be yourself, and try to do things that fit you and your skin, nobody cares about that.

"At the end of the day white America dominates and rules. And it's racist."

Indo-Canadian among People magazine's 'Smart Guys'
Indo-Asian News Service

New York, Dec 26 (IANS) Michael Manga, a 37-year-old Indo-Canadian geophysicist, has made it to the People magazine's 20th anniversary special 'Sexiest Man Alive' issue under the 'Smart Guys' section.

Manga, who was named as one of the 'Brilliant 10' by Popular Science magazine two years ago, appears in the issue with names like Matthew McConaughey, Jake Gyllenhaal, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, George Clooney and Orlando Bloom.

This year in September he also bagged the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship - the Genius Award - of $500,000 (US).

The scientist, who has worn his hair in a ponytail since he was 18, was one of only two men in academia admitted to the ranks of America's dreamiest dudes. He speculates that he came to People's attention after winning the MacArthur and insists that neither honour has changed his life.

He said: "I still get to change diapers, cook, vacuum and scrub the tub and toilets."

The scientist is not exactly thrilled about the honour and said the MacArthur is so much better than the People's magazine.

He also said the nice thing about being at Berkeley is that no one reads People, so no one knows about this - yet. And that's the way it should be. "It's kind of embarrassing in a way, because it's not how I perceive myself."

The People magazine's list has included academics since 1997 and magazine editors who scanned pictures of this year's MacArthur winners and came across the pony-tailed Manga, said Elizabeth Sporkin, People's executive editor.

Manga is currently an associate professor at the University of California at Berkeley.

His father, who is of Indian origin, immigrated to Canada from South Africa. Manga was born in Hamilton and raised in Ottawa.
