Next 'Potter' film to be made shorter
Los Angeles, April 15 The "Harry Potter"
filmmakers are shortening the next movie in fear that it
is too long for fans to sit through.
The recent failure of the double-bill movie "Grindhouse"
directed by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez which
is more than three-hours-long has prompted the studio
bosses at Warner Brothers to ask the director David Yates
to trim the movie, reports Hollywood.com.
The star, Daniel Radcliffe, believes the idea to shorten
the film is good and it will please the fans.
He says: "People should be able to let that go. You can
still read the book and the film is chock-full of stuff.
The fans will be pleased."

What is the secret of Sanjaya's survival on 'American
Idol'?
Los Angeles, April 15 Everyone is puzzled as
to why India-American contestant Sanjaya Malakar has
stayed this long on "American Idol" since he can't carry a
tune
in a bucket except that one time when he gave a rendition
of Jennifer Lopez' "Besasme mucho".
Sanjaya's rendition had Lopez gushing and judge Simon
Cowell choking on his acid tongue while he had to admit
that he had done a good job.
The Los Angeles Times editorial says that the secret of
his survivability on the show is his good spirit, reports
www.hollywood.tv.
The editorial went on to explain: "Although all 'Idol'
contestants must suffer public judgment with a smile,
Sanjaya's grin seems to be that of an ingenuous,
bewildered kid
instead of a well-coached contestant. His flamboyance -
such as that surprise Trojan-helmet-like ponyhawk
hairstyle - is tempered by a timidity rarely seen on
national TV.
"And because he cannot be derided like obviously
talentless former contestant William Hung, it's hard not
to sympathise with him as a young man who is simply out of
his
league.
"Malakar may win nothing more than a hair-product
endorsement. But he will have shown that even in a genre
dependent on egomaniacs who display highly scripted
humility, a plain old good sport can survive for a while." |

'Harry Potter' theme park in the works
Los Angeles, April 15 Universal Studios
Florida is close to putting the final touches on a deal to
set up a Harry Potter World theme park on an unused
portion of
Orlando amusement park.
As early as 2005, Walt Disney Co. reportedly wanted to
create a "Harry Potter" theme park in Singapore with rides
based on the Harry Potter stories. At that time, the
company was said to be in negotiations with J.K. Rowling
and Warner Brothers to acquire theme park rights, but the
project never came to fruition, reports
www.hollywood.tv.
Now it turns out that Universal is negotiating with
Warner, and while they both agree to the idea of a "Harry
Potter" theme park in principle, the terms of the deal are
still
being hammered out.
The books and movies together have generated all sorts of
video games and merchandise but never the idea of a theme
park.
The six "Potter" books published to date have collectively
sold more than 325 million copies and have been translated
into 63 languages.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", the final
instalment of the seven-volume series, is set to hit
bookstore shelves July 21. Warner Bros turned the first
four books into
highly popular films that earned an estimated $4 billion
in total worldwide ticket sales.
The fifth film, "Harry Potter and the Order of the
Phoenix", will be seen in theatres July 13.

Bruce impresses Halle with good
food
London, April 16 Actor Bruce Willis served daily
treats to Oscar winning actress Halle Berry when they worked
together in "Perfect Stranger".
Willis had his team of top chefs create dishes for her. Berry
admits she enjoys eating good food and was impressed with Willis
for having his own chef prepare food for him, reports
contactmusic.com
She said: "He always brought me food a lot because he had really
good cooks, a really good chef that always cooked the good stuff
in his trailer.
"I'd get this little decadent treat that his chef was cooking up
for the day. While I just had the regular set food he had this
gourmet meal cooking. It was amazing."
Duff lost too much weight
New York, April 16 Singer-actress Hilary Duff was so
thrilled with the results of her "dessert or bread" diet that
she went crazy and now accepts that she lost too much weight.
Duff stunned fans and onlookers alike when she showed up at
parties looking very thin, reports hollywood.com. The reactions
made her examine herself very carefully and she was not happy
with what she saw.
She says: "I made a conscious choice to get in shape. I've
always been a junk food eater, but I started paying more
attention to what I put in my body and cut out foods like pizza,
chicken fingers and French fries. If I knew I'd want dessert one
night, I wouldn't have bread that day. If I wanted to eat bread,
I wouldn't have dessert.
"Seeing how well it worked motivated me to keep going, but I hit
a period when I got too skinny. I wasn't too obsessed with it,
but I did learn that there have to be days when you just don't
think about it."
Zeta-Jones and Eckhart present culinary award
New York, April 16 Actors Catherine Zeta-Jones and
Aaron Eckhart, who play rival chefs in the upcoming movie "No
Reservations", presented the Food Network Awards recently.
Pagesix.com reports that the actors presented Matthew Finkel a
$100,000 Culinary Institute of America Scholarship and Food

at a pizzeria. He was also awarded a two-foot-wide metallic
wedge of a cake that commemorated the occasion.
Morello surprises fans by taking stage on open-mike nights
London, April 16 Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello
likes to surprise fans by taking stage at open-mike nights in
between shows.
Morello says he has played hundreds of unannounced shows and
loves to have fans guess if it is really he.
Contactusic.com quoted him as saying: "We would be on these
Audioslave arena tours and on a night off, I would look in the
local paper and find an open-mike night, go down there
completely anonymously, sign up, wait my turn and sing a couple
of songs.
"The experience was terrifying to be naked with just an acoustic
guitar. There were enough of those nights that really felt like
everybody's soul in the room was at stake and I knew this was
something I had to pursue."
Prince William ended relationship on phone: report
DPA
London, April 16 (DPA) Britain's Prince William told his
long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton that their romance was over
-- in a mobile phone call, The Mirror newspaper reported Monday.
Middleton, 25, had been hoping for reconciliation even though
she and William, 24, had agreed at an Easter meeting their
four-year affair was on the rocks, said the paper.
A colleague, who saw Middleton take the call in car park at her
work in London, said: "It was clear it was William - and
definitely a tiff."
Heartbroken Middleton paced nervously around a car park as she
learned her romance with the prince, whom she met at university
six years ago, was over.
"Kate was walking up and down and looking upset as if she was
having an argument. But she didn't cry. Word went round that it
was William and they were having problems. Now it's clear what
it was all about.
"When she came back to the office she didn't say a thing and
disappeared for the rest of the day. She hasn't been back to
work since."
The couple had decided they had no future together at a dramatic
face-to-face meeting over the Easter holiday, said The Mirror.
Middleton discovered there was no going back when she spoke to
him Wednesday. The split, which appeared to come as a complete
surprise, was announced Saturday.
Madonna back in Malawi: report
DPA
Johannesburg, April 16 (DPA) American pop singer Madonna has
returned to Malawi to undertake charity work with her Raising
Malawi organization, reports said Monday.
The 48-year-old star was seen landing at Lilongwe Airport on
Monday morning, South African public radio said quoting witness
reports.
A spokesperson for the singer confirmed last she week she would
be returning to the southern African country, where her adoption
of a baby boy last October was surrounded in controversy,
The singer was accused at the time of bypassing the country's
laws in seeking to adopt one-year-old David Banda from the
orphanage, where his father placed him.
Authorities waived adoption laws in granting Madonna and her
British film director husband Guy Richie an interim order and
custody of David Banda for 18 months, at the end of which they
said Madonna has said she will apply to make the adoption
permanent.
Foreign non-residents are not usually allowed to adopt children
in the impoverished southern African country that is home to
nearly one million orphans, partly as a result of high HIV/AIDS
infection levels.
Ferry apologises for praising Nazis
London, April 17 British musician Bryan Ferry has
apologised for praising the Nazi propaganda machine and says the
comments were made from an art history perspective.
Contactmusic.com quoted him as saying: "I, like every
right-minded individual, find the Nazi regime, and all it stood
for, evil and abhorrent."
Ferry was recently quoted in an interview with German newspaper,
Welt am Sonntag, as saying: "The Nazis knew how to put
themselves in the limelight and present themselves. Leni
Riefenstahl's movies, Albert Speer's buildings and the mass
parades and the flags are just amazing. Really beautiful."
The comments have upset people in his country and questions
loomed over his modelling contract with Marks and Spencer, which
was founded and owned by a Jewish immigrant.
"I apologise unreservedly for any offence caused by my comments
on Nazi iconography," Ferry added.
Spears shocks photographer with pregnancy comment
New York, April 17 Troubled pop star Britney Spears,
who is constantly hounded by paparazzi, shocked a photographer
when she told him that she's expecting a baby and came to know
about her pregnancy through a magazine.
Spears said it when she was cornered by photographers and her
comments left the media guessing, reports hollywood.com
She said: "I really am pregnant. I saw these magazines and they
said I was pregnant, and, like, it's so true. Like, America,
believe everything you read because, like, you're smart and I'm
stupid."
Voight still estranged from daughter Jolie
London, April 17 Actor Jon Voight says he hasn't
been in contact with daughter Angelina Jolie, or her four
children, since she broke off communication with him for saying
that she was unbalanced.
In 2002, Voight was on TV crying because he believed Jolie was
having "severe emotional problems". Contactmusic.com reports
that the two have not had any communication since then.
Jolie recently said: "He said some very ugly things about me.
Even though he is related to me, I don't have to listen to what
he says. I don't have to care. And I don't have to have him in
my life."
Voight now believes the best way to win back his daughter is to
keep quiet.
"I haven't been in touch with the kids and I would love to be
spending time with them, that's all. I have nothing to say,
people want to make news out of everything.
"It's just a cruel slap at somebody and it becomes a part of our
mythology, we can't correct it. I don't want to bring attention
to it again. It always hurts me when things are brought back to
the fore that are distorted," said Voight.
Bloom felt like pirate on Antarctica trip
London, April 17 Actor Orlando Bloom felt like a
real life pirate during a recent trip to Antarctica on a
Norwegian icebreaker.
Bloom and his cousin took a three-week trip as a part of an
environment exercise, reports contactmusic.com. He said he felt
more like a pirate than when he played Will in the "Pirates of
the Caribbean" movies.
"It was the real pirate ship. The boat was an old Norwegian ice
breaker now used for scientific research. I slept in a bunk and
did the washing up and shared a toilet and a shower with, like,
27 other guys. It was an amazing experience," said the star.
Weinstein lining up stars for musical
New York, April 17 Studio boss Harvey Weinstein is
said to be lining up an all-star cast for the movie version of
the musical "Nine".
Speaking of the six leading roles, he said: "I'm thinking of
taking Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench,
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renée Zellweger." Pagesix.com reports
he still does not know how he will pay the actresses.
"We'll figure it (payment) out. There are roles for six women in
the movie who have to be beautiful and sing and dance. It's a
terrible assignment to cast this," added Weinstein, who is
considering George Clooney, Javier Bardem, Antonio Banderas and
Johnny Depp for the male leads.
Brad defends 'Supergirl' Angelina
Los Angeles, April 17 While the tabloids have been
having a field day speculating that Hollywood star Brad Pitt's
relationship with Angelina Jolie has been strained to breaking
point, the actor has only good things to say about her.
"You know what it's like to be on the cover of every magazine,
having your personal life dissected with all the lies, all the
rubbish!" he was quoted as saying.
"It's hell. Certainly, pick on me but why pick on Angelina?
That's so low. She's such an amazing woman - like a Supergirl,
in every way," added Pitt.
However, a man by the name of Jim Cruse, who claims that he has
known Pitt for several years, has told a British tabloid that
the star "is feeling overwhelmed by his newfound domestic
responsibilities", reports www.hollywood.tv.
"Brad always said he wanted a family. But you should be careful
what you ask for," said Cruse. "He has got four kids in two
years, all under the age of six. It's no picnic."
Cruse also criticised Jolie's belief that she can "have it all"
and still be able to balance being a working mother, a loving
partner and a UN ambassador.
"I don't think she's ever really been content," said Cruse. "If
you ask me, this thing about her 'wanting it all' is just
another way of saying she's never happy. The truth is that she
makes no excuses for who she is. She thinks of herself as a
survivor."
When Jolie's manager, Geyer Kosinski, was told of Cruse's
comments, he said the 31-year-old actress is not placing career
over family.
"Jolie worked a total of only 35 days last year and is currently
scheduled to work 40 days this year," he said.
Fans go wild at 'Spider-Man 3' Tokyo premiere
Los Angeles, April 17 Hundreds of fans waved and
shouted "kawaii" (cute) as Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst
headed down the red carpet to attend the world premiere of
"Spider-Man 3" in Tokyo, Japan.
Maguire later noted that Tokyo was one of the few cities in the
world where the comic book superhero would have a far easier
time of swinging among the city's multitude of skyscrapers,
reports www.hollywood.tv.
"If we do a fourth movie, we might need Spider-Man to come to
Tokyo," he said and his remark evoked even more enthusiasm from
the fans.
While Sony Pictures is a Japanese-owned company, the Tokyo
premiere was part of its marketing strategy. "Of course we are
looking to boost our proceeds in Japan," said a Sony official in
Tokyo.
While higher quality domestic films in 2006 outsold Hollywood
movies at the Japanese box office for the first time in 20
years, "Spider-Man 3" was "made with the Japanese movie market
in mind", said producer Avi Arad.
"Japanese viewers enjoy sophisticated movies with eye-opening
action scenes. But it's also been proved that unless the story
is good, the movie won't be accepted," Arad added.
Sony Pictures is said to have spent approximately $250 million
on the new film, with a substantial amount of the budget being
spent on special effects.
The film introduces two new villains - Sandman and Venom.
"I feel this film is a kind of natural conclusion to a lot of
stuff that's happened in the first two movies. It kind of feels
like a natural trilogy," said Maguire.
There is word that a fourth sequel is being written and Maguire
intimated that he would continue to play the role "if we come up
with something we feel deserves to be told. I'm not going to
make them just because they've been successful".
"Spider-Man 3" will have its British premiere April 23 and its
US premiere April 30 at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
On May 1 the blockbuster will be released in Japan, China and
selected European countries.
"Spider-Man 3" will hit Indian screens May 4 through Percept
Picture Company (PPC) with 600 prints.
I won't let my career break my marriage: Jada Pinkett
Los Angeles, April 17 Though her husband Will Smith
and she are both successful film stars, Jada Pinkett said she
would willingly give up acting if it ever came down to a choice
between career and marriage.
"I'm aware how busy careers can quickly lead to divorce, but I'm
not going to let that happen to us," she said.
"I'll give up my career before I let it break up our marriage. I
made it clear to Will that I'd throw it away completely, which
is what I'm doing to a certain extent."
Married for 10 years, Jada and Will have two children - their
son Jaden Christopher, 8, who recently starred with his father
in "The Pursuit Of Happyness", and daughter Willow, 6, reports
www.hollywood.tv
In her latest film "Reign Over Me", Jada plays a wife who's
trapped in an unhappy marriage, a role that conversely taught
her even more what it takes to make a marriage work.
"Even though you have this union as husband and wife, you can
never forget who you are, just simply as yourself.
"If you lose yourself then everything else will fall out. There
is no relationship to be had if you don't have a relationship
with yourself first," she said.
