Ridley Scott to direct 'American Gangster'

London, Feb 15 (IANS) Ridley Scott, the filmmaker behind great hits like "Gladiator" and "Black Hawk Down", is set to direct Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington in a 1970s crime drama.
According to ananova.com, the producer will be Brian Grazer and shooting on the movie titled "American Gangster" will begin this summer. The project was pulled up by Universal Pictures in late 2004 but is back again.
Universal is still not sure if it is going to finance or co-finance the movie but other studios seem to be interested. The story is about a Harlem heroin kingpin who finds a way to smuggle heroin in the coffins of US soldiers returning from the Vietnam War.
