Simpson asked to shop by appointment

London, Jan 17 Pop singer Jessica Simpson was shocked when she was told not to shop during normal shopping hours at a local food store.

The shop owner felt Simpson was distracting the customers. The singer was upset and said she was not angry with the manager but with fame for not allowing her to do normal things like shopping, reports contactmusic.com.

She says: "Two weeks ago, I was at Whole Foods and probably about 100 photographers were outside waiting for me. The manager gave me his card and said, 'Jessica, I'd appreciate if you wouldn't come in during store hours. Give me a call and I can open up early or you can come in after we close. But this is very distracting for all my customers.'

"I looked at him kind of shocked. Then I was just mad, not at him but at the situation. I couldn't even live my normal life any more."

 

 


Sheen asked not to come to the White House

New York, Jan 17   Actor Martin Sheen, who played the fictional US president Josiah Bartlet in the TV series "The West Wing", was asked not to attend a party at the White House where his co-stars from the show were invited to meet their real life counterparts.

The show ended in May 2006 and Sheen was well received by former US President Bill Clinton but not so amicable with George Bush, reports imdb.com.

Sheen says: "I adored Bill Clinton. And he was a fan of 'The West Wing'. For a while we were given carte blanche at the White House, which ended when Bush got in - ended for me anyway.

"When the new administration got into power, all my 'West Wing' colleagues were invited there to meet their counterparts. All except me. I was very relieved about that."

Cameron unveils secret project 'Avatar'

London, Jan 17   James Cameron, Oscar winning director of the mega hit "Titanic", has revealed that he has been secretly working on a film called "Avatar".

Cameron has been working with a team of 100 people full time for more than a year on the film. This is his first film since he directed "Titanic".

Contactmusic.com quoted him as saying: "They (team) believe in this thing. And they were told in no uncertain terms to keep their mouths shut. I've wanted to make this movie from the time I wrote the treatment 11 years ago. I was just biding my time for when it was going to be technically possible.

"I'm so invested in the 3-D and I love the challenge of creating an alien culture. We're creating a world from scratch, so it's really fun."

He denied that he had stayed away from filmmaking for almost a decade because he tried to avoid topping the success of "Titanic".

He said: "I think people have interpreted it as, '(success) generates artistic paralysis.' But for me it was like, 'okay, I don't have anything more to prove, other than to myself. I've got more money than I ever thought I would have. Let me go have some fun'."
 
 

Hudson thankful for 'American Idol' experience

London, Jan 17   Singer turned actress Jennifer Hudson, who has won a Golden Globe for her performance in the movie "Dreamgirls", is grateful for the show "American Idol" because it helped her launch a career in Hollywood.

Hudson says she is proud of the time she spent on the TV show. She believes her time on the show sped her rise to the top.

Contactmusic.com quoted her as saying: "Before 'American Idol', I worked for Disney on their cruise ship line for six months at a time. I narrated and also did all the lead singing for the 'Hercules' show and also did 'Circle of Life' from 'The Lion King'.

"I think I was on the right track for my singing career before 'American Idol', but 'Idol' did help speed my career along. I didn't think, things could get any bigger or busier than when I was on 'Idol', but it has.

"'American Idol' is part of my history and I'm proud of it. It's helped me establish myself as a true artist. Now it's up to me to further my career on my own."
 
 

Norah Jones scared of Hollywood stars

New York, Jan 17   Norah Jones was so scared to work with actor Jude Law in her debut film "My Blueberry Nights" that she lost her voice.

Imdb.com quoted her as saying: "Hearing that list of names for the first time I was more terrified than ever, like, 'What on earth have I got myself into?' My first scene was with Jude and listening to the playback my voice was like helium and you could all but hear my knees knock.

"I had to slap myself hard around the face, metaphorically, and say, 'Norah, be fearless, or forget it, okay?'"

Jones, the daughter of renowned Indian sitarist Ravi Shankar, stars with Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz and David Strathairn in the film.
 
 

I named Marilyn Monroe, says Andy Rooney

New York, Jan 17   Movie legend Andy Rooney says he named Marilyn Monroe and told her that her original name Norma Rae was not fit for Hollywood.

Rooney confesses that he was captivated by her looks but not her name. Rooney remembers taking her home that night to help her better define her name and image, reports imdb.com.

He says: "I said, 'Something tells me you have a wonderful chance - but you gotta change your name. There was a wonderful star named Marilyn Miller, and nobody's used it (name). You should be Marilyn.' Then the phone rang and it was a guy I used to write scripts with whose name was Tom Monroe...

"She said, 'Who were you talking to?' 'I was talking to your last name... You're Marilyn Monroe'."
 
 

Victoria Beckham speaks of LA excitement

London, Jan17   Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has revealed her family's "excitement" about moving to the US.

Victoria and her footballer husband David Beckham recently announced that they were moving to Los Angeles and leaving the Spanish club Real Madrid. Victoria revealed that they are eager to start a new life in Los Angeles, reports contactmusic.com.

She said: "We're really excited about moving to America. David is really excited about his new deal too and there are things I'm working on.

"I have been looking at a lot of houses, and I want to make sure I pick the right one for David and the kids. I've seen some beautiful places, but we want somewhere that looks like a nice home."
