Lopez might adopt Puerto Rican child
London, Dec 12 Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc
Anthony are planning to adopt a child from Puerto Rico.
Lopez will join the likes of Madonna, Angelina Jolie and Tom
Cruise who have adopted children from foreign countries.
She denied rumours that she was receiving IVF treatment to try
and conceive, reports contactmusic.com.
But, a source said: "Jen and Marc are dying to have kids but it
just doesn't seem to be working for them. Jen realises she's not
getting any younger, so they've jointly decided that adoption
may be the answer to their prayers."
Report to put an end to 'conspiracy theory' behind
Diana's death
DPA
London, Dec 12 (DPA) Almost a decade after her death, and
following three years of painstaking investigations, the
first British report into the death of Princess Diana in
Paris in 1997 will be made public this week.
The long-awaited report by Sir John Stevens, formerly the
head of Scotland Yard, is expected to confirm what most
people already knew: The princess, then aged 36, died in a
car crash in Paris that was an accident - and no more.
Days before its publication on Dec 14, British newspapers
said the conclusive findings of Stevens had
"systematically demolished every conspiracy theory
surrounding the crash".
A royal reporter for the BBC, the first media organisation
to get a glimpse of the report, even went as far as
stressing that by hailing its unsurprising outcome the
public broadcaster should in no way be seen to be
"colluding with the establishment".
It was a remark that might have aroused, and fuelled, the
lingering doubts of his listeners. Indeed, an opinion poll
for the BBC suggested that more than three in 10 people in
Britain do not believe Diana died in an accident.
However, Stevens, who repeatedly inspected the crash scene
in the Pont de l'Alma underpass in Paris and had the
wrecked black Mercedes car towed to Britain for a
fingertip search, appears to have done thorough detective
work. The key finding in his 400-page report is based on
DNA tests on blood samples of Henri Paul, the French
driver who smashed the Mercedes on the fateful night of
Aug 30, 1997. Diana died in the early hours of Aug 31.
The tests confirm previous French findings that Paul was
three times over the drink-drive limit and had traces of
tranquillisers in his blood.
According to The Daily Telegraph Monday, the British
inquiry is a "devastating rebuff" to Mohamed al-Fayed, the
Harrods's owner whose 42-year-old son, Dodi, died with
Diana in the crash. It "takes apart" Fayed's claim that
the British Secret Service murdered Diana because she was
pregnant with Dodi's child, the newspaper said.
Investigators used advanced computer technology to
reconstruct the crash scene and took new forensic tests on
tiny droplets of the princess's blood from the back seat
of the car, which were found not to have the hormone
levels of a pregnant woman.
Fayed, who has already announced that he will challenge
the findings, was repeatedly interviewed by Stevens during
the course of the investigations.
However, the Stevens report, contrary to the
investigations by France's Criminal Brigade, states that
the "deadly chase with photographers was a major
contributory factor" in the crash.
The British conclusions, which will form the basis for a
judicial inquest into the death of Diana and Dodi next
January, is likely to come as a relief to Britain's royal
family ahead of the 10th anniversary of the crash,
commentators said Monday.
But observers doubt that it will, once and for all, lay to
rest all suspicions and conspiracy theories.
Sceptics of the official account maintain that many
questions remain unanswered.
They include the question why the princess was not wearing
a seat belt, why the driver of a white Fiat involved in
the crash was never identified and why it took two hours
to get Diana to a hospital just six kilometres away.
In his first interview on the case, Professor Andre
Lienhart, who reviewed the French emergency services
response to the crash, said a post mortem carried out on
the princess in Britain 24 hours after the accident showed
she was not pregnant.
"I don't think it's possible to stop rumours - what is
clear from all the medical staff and paramedics working
that night, is that they wanted to save the person in
front of them. That is absolutely indisputable," he told a
BBC programme on the crash.
But he added: "What is certain is that she was not wearing
a seat belt and this made things worse. We would like to
think that if she had been wearing a seat belt, we'd have
been able to save her."
British royal biographer Nicholas Davies, speaking on the
same programme, said: "The more we are left with so many
unanswered questions, the more we are left saying there is
only one answer to this - that she was taken out."

Affleck doesn't want to embarrass his daughter
New York, Dec 12 Ben Affleck, who gained notoriety
for his relationship with Latin singer-actress Jennifer
Lopez, says he has changed his ways after he settled down
and became a dad.
People.com quoted him as saying: "I've never been very
judicious about my own behaviour or choices until they had
an impact on people other than me. Obviously, my wife. And
my daughter, who's going to have my last name - I don't
want her to mutter it over a drink. I want her to be proud
of her old man."
Affleck and his wife, actress Jennifer Garner, did not
release pictures of their daughter Violet.
He adds: "We just didn't sell them - that was the thing.
I'm extraordinarily lucky and privileged. And I've tried
not to be bitter, but I have developed a reactionary
defensiveness.
"But for my child, she didn't make the bargain I did. She
didn't make that choice. And I don't want her to have to
pay for the parents' sins. I try to protect her privacy.
I'll end up in the magazines, and that's life, and I can
live with it, but I try to shield my daughter."

Diaz says even men attracted to Law
London, Dec 12 Actress Cameron Diaz says her "The Holiday"
co-star Jude Law charms both men and women.
Diaz is all praise for Law and says he has great people
skills which make even men warm up to him.
Contactmusic.com quoted her as saying: "All the girls had
a crush on him, but the great thing about Jude is that he
treats everyone the same.
"He's as interested in the guy holding his cue cards as
the girls who are fanning themselves over him. He engages
with everyone in the same way. Because of that, I think
there were a lot of man-crushes as well, with the guys
going, 'I didn't realise I was gonna like him so much'."

youth of America to help save the planet.
Douglas has written an open letter to them on his 90th
birthday asking them to "fix the world because the
situation is intolerable", reports contactmusic.com.
He says: "Let's face it. The world is in a mess.
Generation Y, you are on the cusp. You are the group
facing many problems: abject poverty, global warming,
genocide, AIDS, and suicide bombers to name a few.
"These problems exist and the world is silent. We have
done very little to solve these problems. Now, we leave it
to you." |

Director Zwick in spat with Simmons over diamonds
London, Dec 12 Director Edward Zwick of "Blood Diamond" is
accusing rap legend Russell Simmons of being an advocate
for the diamond industry in Africa.
"Blood Diamond" depicts how diamond money is used to
support conflict in Africa.
Simmons recently went to South Africa and Botswana on a
fact-finding trip, which was sponsored by the Diamond
Information Centre, and says that conditions have improved
and the sale of diamonds to sponsor war has dropped just
one percent since a new law was enacted in 2003.
But Zwick believes that Simmons has been fooled, reports
contactmusic.com.
He says: "I find it embarrassing for Russell Simmons. That
number comes from diamonds that are mined in countries
that are 'war-declared'. Conflict diamonds are also mined
in countries where there is not a 'declared war'.
"If you want to know about conflict diamonds, you don't go
to Botswana and South Africa. You go to Sierra Leone and
Angola. Russell Simmons is being embarrassed."
Simmons adds that he is not being fooled by the diamond
company DeBeers and says: "To suggest I'm a sell-out is
wrong. I'm not here to defend the past of these companies.
I'm here to talk about the current reality. Diamonds pay
for education and medical treatment in Africa."`

Hilton says she and Spears are not lovers
New York, Dec 12 Socialite heiress Paris Hilton tells her
fans that she and pop singer Britney Spears are not
lovers.
The two have been partying regularly together and have
stirred speculations, reports newsweek.com.
The rumours grew when Spears ex-husband Jason Alexander,
who was married to her for just 55 hours, once said: "She
found other girls attractive, yes, but we never did
anything about it."
In one recent photograph Hilton looked like she was
stroking Spears' upper thigh. Another report said Hilton
was kissing another woman and suggested that she and
Spears are more than just good friends.
But Hilton's representative rebuffs these reports and
said: "That is just silly. They are friends and you will
continue to see them together. Paris thinks the world of
her."

Baldwin campaigns against nuclear plant
Los Angeles, Dec 13 Protesting the re-licensing of a
nuclear plant in New Jersey, actor Alec Baldwin has

community discussion, reports imdb.com. The locals fear

their safety.
Baldwin said: "The people in favour of the license renewal

British band slams Robbie Williams
London, Dec 13 British band Basement Jaxx has
slammed pop singer Robbie Williams, calling tours with him
"soulless".
The band was upset with Williams' European tour, calling
it a "corporate money-making machine", reports
contactmusic.com.
Band member Felix Buxton said: "I wouldn't want to repeat
the experience. We didn't want to hang out with him. He
tried to be down to earth, but I think sometimes he
probably wonders what he's doing.
"It's a big moneymaking corporate machine. Fans pay a lot
of money to get to the gig and then there's the Robbie
ring-tones and Robbie everything. It's milking money at
every point. It's mass entertainment and it felt a bit
soulless."

Rushdie attracts beautiful women, says son
New York, Dec 13 Author Salman Rushdie's son says he
sticks close to his famous father at parties as "all
beautiful women want to talk to dad".
Zafar Rushdie, 26, said: "Most people who go to a party
with their parents try to run away from them. Not me. If I
want to meet girls, I just stand near him. All the
beautiful women want to talk to dad, so I stand close and
bask in the sunlight. Beauty loves brains."
Rushdie, who no longer lives with his fourth wife Padma
Lakshmi, returned the compliment by claiming that his son
is a man who women cannot resist.
"Every time I see a picture of him in the papers, he has
four girls around him, so I think he's not doing badly.
He's absurdly charming - lethally, disgustingly charming.
He has it like a weapon," pagesix.com quoted the dad as
saying.
But Zafar says that he won't take any advice from his
father when it comes to his sex life.
He added: "I don't consult him on my girlfriends. He
doesn't like the fact that my relationships don't last
long. But I'm not convinced he's necessarily the best
person to give relationship advice."

Sorry, Miller tells Pittsburgh
London, Dec 13 British actress Sienna Miller has formally
apologised to the people of Pittsburgh after referring to
the city as "S**tsburgh" in an interview.
Miller had also criticised monogamy in the interview,
according to contactmusic.com.
"I said two controversial things after a bottle of wine.
That monogamy is overrated and that Pittsburgh is 'S**tsburgh',
which meant I was ostracised from the city.
"It was horrible, I got hate mail. English humour does not
translate well at all. The monogamy thing was taken out of
context because I believe in, and aspire to be in, a
monogamous relationship," Miller said.
Miller was in the news recently for her split from
ex-fiancé Jude Law after their relationship floundered on
rumours and confessions of infidelity.

Gibson accused of plagiarism
London, Dec 13 A Mexican filmmaker has accused Mel Gibson
of lifting scenes for his new movie "Apocalypto" from a
small, unknown film made in 1989.
Director Juan Catlett claims that Gibson directly copied
pivotal scenes from his movie "Return to Aztlan", reports
contactmusic.com.
Gibson's movie is set in the times of the Mayan
civilisation when an obscure Mayan language was spoken.
Catlett added that Gibson's production manager was given a
copy of his movie, which was about the fall of the Mayan
empire.
He said: "There are images very similar to those in my
film. It seems my movie served as a consultancy and a
reference - and they only paid me 100 pesos." |

food, according to contactmusic.com. "There's nothing I
like more than a lovely bowl of pasta," she had said.
Writer Germaine Greer won the Golden Bull award for her

creates a discontinuity between itself and the
unsynthesised
manifold," she wrote in a newspaper column.

ananova.com. He is hoping to get the whole original cast

Lindsay Lohan says no to drinks
Los Angeles, Dec 13 Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan says
she hasn't had a drink in a while and is attending
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings.
"I've been going to AA, for a year by the way. I haven't
had a drink in seven days or anything. I don't drink when
I go to clubs. I drink with my friends at home, but
there's no
need to. I feel better not drinking. It's more fun,"
people.com quoted the actor as saying.
But, she added, "I didn't feel bad before. I never felt
bad. I just wanted to, like, find a balance. I was out too
much. I was too caught up. I mean, I'm 20 years old. I was
off
from work, getting ready to start a film and I was going
out just to get it out of my system.
"I was going out too much and I knew that, and I have more
to live for than that." |
