Jane wanted to slam US in Oscar speech
Indo-Asian News Service
London, Oct 9 (IANS) Oscar winning actress Jane Fonda has revealed that she almost used her 1972 Oscar acceptance speech to slam the US involvement in the Vietnam war, but her late father movie legend Henry Fonda convinced her to not do it.
Fonda, who won the award for her role in "Klute", changed her mind when her dad told her it would be smarter to leave politics alone then, according to contactmusic.com.
She said: "I thought I was going to win. I would been nominated before and did not think I would, but this time I thought I was going to win and I thought, 'Should I say something about the war?' I mean, what an opportunity."
"There are hundreds of millions of people watching the Academy Awards. Would it be irresponsible if I did not? And I asked my dad for advice and he said, 'Why don't you just say that there is a lot to be said but tonight is not the time?' And that's what I said and it was the perfect thing."
