According to contactmusic.com, the Bruce Lee club wants to erect a statue of Lee on the Avenue of Stars which honours Hong Kong movie stars. Lee was born in the US but moved to Hong Kong as a child. He made most of his movies in Hong Kong and died in 1973 at the age of 32.

Zellweger doesn't want to play wife
From Indo-Asian News Service

Los Angeles, Sep 19 (IANS) Renee Zellweger's marriage to country music star husband Kenny Chesney reportedly ended because she found it impossible to accept his conservative views on marriage.

According to Hollywood.com, the two were married just four months ago, but are annulling their marriage this week. The reason seems to be that Zellweger is determined to maintain her independence and this does not agree with Chesney's view of the ideal wife that he was forcing on her.

A source says, "Kenny wants to be involved in every aspect of Renee's life, but she's an independent woman who's not used to being told what to do. She has forged an incredibly successful career -- she's not a washing-up, cooking and kitchen kind of girl. But Kenny was very controlling and wanted her to play the little wife. In the end, Renee wanted out."

Valentino snubs Paris Hilton
From Indo-Asian News Service

New York, Sep 19 (IANS) Fashion designer Valentino has snubbed socialite-actress Paris Hilton in a profile in the New Yorker magazine.

According to Pagesix.com, when the writer Michael Specter asked Valentino if he would like to design Paris Hilton's wedding dress he replied, "No, I don't like her. She is marrying the son of a friend of mine. They have billions. She is vulgar, and she is not even pretty."

After pausing for a moment to gather breath, Valentino concluded, "The Hiltons, they have nothing."

There is still speculation over whether the marriage between Paris and her boyfriend Paris Latsis will follow through since there seem to be problems from his side of the family. Latsis' father seems to be against the marriage and has not given his blessings.

Dr. Alban to perform in Nepal
By Sudeshna Sarkar, Indo-Asian News Service

Kathmandu, Sep 19 (IANS) A year after Sting came to Nepal incognito and quietly sang in a jazz bar, another international star is going to sing in the capital for peace - Dr Alban of "Hello Africa", "No Coke" and "It's My Life" fame.

The Stockholm-based singer, who turned to music to fund his university education, will arrive here Sep 28 along with his dance troupe for a concert at the five-star Hyatt Regency hotel scheduled for Sep 30.

"It had always been his dream to perform in Nepal," says Raju Singh of DMI, the event management company that is bringing the Nigeria-born to the Himalayan kingdom.

"The Swedes, like the Swiss, are very fond of mountaineering and Alban has heard a lot about Nepal, known in Sweden as the gateway to the Himalayas and Mt Everest."

However, despite the willingness of the European star to sing in Nepal the project to arrange his concert, by any standards, would cost a pretty packet.

This is where Nepal's top notch company Surya Nepal, a joint venture of Indian tobacco giant ITC, and a host of other corporates stepped in.

"Our premier cigarette brand Surya has been established as a top of the line brand, on a par with international brands," says Samirendra Roy, vice-president, marketing at Surya Nepal.

"Dr Alban is a top of the line international artiste. The two go hand in hand."

Other firms like McDowell's, Bajaj Pulsar, Gulf Air and Kingfisher have chipped in to make the event possible.

DMI has a shortlist of international celebrities they are planning to bring to Nepal. Singh says Alban was the first choice because of the kind of music he makes.

"His songs are still very popular and have very danceable beats," says Singh who about eight years ago had brought the singer to India's southern city of Bangalore. "They are perfect for a live performance."

"They also have a strong social message. He sings for peace all over the world, raises awareness about AIDS and drugs. This is just the kind of music Nepal needs right now."

Born Alban Nwapa in Nigeria, the singer's foray into the world of music began with Stockholm's Alphabet Club where he started DJing to support his dentistry studies.

In fact, he was a practising dentist in 1990 when he met Denniz PoP from the SweMix label. He came up with his first record "Hello Africa" with Denniz and rap queen Leila K. and the popular debut album sold almost one million copies worldwide.

'Everybody Loves Raymond', 'Lost' win Emmy Awards
Los Angeles, Sep 19 (DPA) Perennial favourite "Everybody Loves Raymond" ended its final season by winning the Emmy Award for best comedy while the desert-island drama "Lost" took home the prize for best drama at the awards show that recognizes the best in American television.

Those triumphs marked rare achievements for US network TV, which in recent years have been eclipsed by edgy shows screened for much smaller audiences on the premium cable channel HBO.

Best actress awards also went to network shows as Felicity Huffman won the best comedic actress award for her role as a stressed-out homemaker on the hit "Desperate Housevives".

Patricia Arquette won the best dramatic actress award for her role as a crime-solving psychic in "Medium".

The best actor honours saw repeat prizes go to Tony Shalhoub as the depressed but funny detective on the series "Monk" while James Spader won the dramatic prize for his role as an ethically challenged lawyer on "Boston Legal".

The 57th annual edition of the premier television awards show in the US Sund night began with a tribute to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, which struck Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama last month.

"New Orleans is my hometown, and our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected," said host Ellen DeGeneres, who also hosted the Emmys four years ago in the aftermath of the Sep 11 terrorist attacks.

But the atmosphere quickly lightened as characters from Donald Trump to William Shatner participated in a spoof of "American Idol".

The awards for best supporting actor and actress went for the third time to Brad Garrett of "Everybody Loves Raymond" and for the fifth time to Doris Roberts, who played an overbearing mother on the show.

Shatner, formerly of "Start Trek" and now of "Boston Legal", also repeated his best supporting dramatic actor award while Blythe Danner of the show "Huff" won the best supporting actress prize.

Geoffrey Rush won the best actor in a miniseries for his lead role in "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers" while Paul Newman also won a supporting actor prize for his role in the made-for-TV movie "Empire Falls".

John Stewart's spoof news programme "The Daily Show" won the prize for the best comedy variety show while "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" won the prize for the best reality programme. "The Amazing Race" took home the award for the best reality competition.
