'Harry Potter' on top of US box office for third weekend

New York, Dec 5 (DPA) While the boy wizard's battle against evil was continuing, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was winning the war at the box office, staying in the top spot on the US charts for the third week in a row.
The fourth instalment of the book-and-film series brought in $20.4 million from Friday to Sunday, according to studio estimates released Sunday, bringing its grand total in three weeks of release to nearly $230 million.
Its worldwide take stood at $560 million for a film that cost $150 million to make.
In second place at the US box office in its debut weekend was the science-fiction thriller "Aeon Flux", starring Charlize Theron as the top agent of a futuristic underground movement. It brought in $13.1 million.
"Walk the Line" about the life of legendary country singer Johnny Cash was third with $10 million, and the family comedy "Yours, Mine and Ours", starring Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo, was fourth with $8.4 million.
Rounding out the top 10 were "Just Friends", "Pride and Prejudice", "Rent", "Chicken Little", "Derailed" and "In the Mix".
Poverty gap in Edinburgh horrifies Rowling?

London, Dec 5 (IANS) J.K. Rowling, author of the "Harry Potter" books, says she is disgusted by the financial disparity between the rich and the poor in her home city Edinburgh, Scotland.
According to contactmusic.com, Rowling was so poor before she made it big with the "Harry Potter" books that she could barely afford to feed herself and her daughter.
She is horrified by the financial divide despite being a millionaire.
She says: "Violence, crime and addiction were part of everyday life in that part of Edinburgh. Yet, barely 10 minutes away was a different world, a world of cashmere and cream teas and the imposing facades of the institutions that make this city the fourth largest financial centre in Europe."
Clooney donates casino money to charity

London, Dec 5 (IANS) Actor George Clooney is keeping his word by giving a quarter of the profits from his Las Vegas casino, The Ramblas, to charity.
According to contactmusic.com, Clooney is determined to help the poor and to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
He says: "I'm donating it to help make poverty history. It's hard to reconcile the idea that you make a decent living and are building one of the great casinos while there's a bunch of kids starving to death."
Missy Elliott to reveal childhood abuse in film

London, Dec 5 (IANS) Rapper Missy Elliott is planning to reveal more about the abuse she suffered as a child in a film.
According to contactmusic.com, Elliott says her father abused her when she was growing up and also claims that one of her cousins raped her when she was only eight-years-old.
She says: "I've been kinda like a character in the TV world as far as videos and stuff, so they really don't know my life story about my father being abusive and the rape by my cousin when I was eight."
Houston slams young singers for signing ads

New York, Dec 5 (IANS) Singer Whitney Houston has slammed younger singers like Christina Aguilera, Beyonce Knowles and Britney Spears for being too eager to sign up for advertising deals.
According to contactmusic.com, Aguilera has endorsed Pepsi and Knowles has represented fast food chain McDonalds, but Houston says she never sold herself commercially except as an actress and a singer.
She says: "They are a brand. They sell everything whereas I have only ever been a singer and actress. They do too much promotion."
50 Cent calls Robbie Williams a sucker

London, Dec 5 (IANS) Hardman rapper 50 Cent has called Robbie Williams a 'sucker' after the latter complained about his behaviour while they were staying at the same hotel in Berlin, Germany.
According to contactmusic.com, both 50 Cent and Williams checked into the Ritz-Carlton in Berlin. Trouble started when Williams' fans mistook 50 Cent's car for Williams' and greeted 50 Cent chanting, "Robbie, Robbie".
The situation got worse when Williams later complained to hotel management asking them to request 50 Cent to quieten his late night antics.
But 50 Cent is touting another reason for the falling out. He says Williams was humiliated because 50 Cent refused to meet him.
50 Cent says: "He's a sucker. He said I was keeping him awake. I know he wanted to meet me but I didn't have time. Maybe that's why he was upset."
Kylie Minogue to publish diary

London, Dec 5 (IANS) Singer Kylie Minogue is planning to publish a "Diary of Hope" to comfort other cancer sufferers.
According to contactmusic.com, Minogue has been keeping a journal ever since she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has been keeping track of her thoughts and feelings through out the ordeal.
A source says: "Kylie knows she is in a position of influence and wants to use that positively by writing this diary. She believes that by sharing her experiences she can provide encouragement to those in a similar situation.
"She wants to get the message over that cancer can strike anybody, no matter how rich and famous. It will be a poignant and powerful read."
Charlize Theron is new Bond girl

London, Dec 5 (DPA) Oscar-winning South African actress Charlize Theron is to play the new Bond girl in the upcoming remake of a Bond classic, Britain's Daily Mirror reported Monday.
The attractive 30-year-old has been offered a lucrative deal to star opposite new Bond actor, Britain's Daniel Craig, in the remake of "Casino Royale", the Mirror reported.
Filming is scheduled to start January in Prague.
The blonde South African was director Martin Campbell's first choice for the role, the paper said, quoting film industry sources.
Theron won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2004 for her portrayal of American serial killer Aileen Wuornos in "Monster".
If the report is confirmed, Theron would follow in the footsteps of former Bond girls such as Halle Berry, Teri Hatcher and Ursula
Andress.
