Bono, Keys sing for AIDS affected children

New York, Dec 3 (IANS) Lead singer of U2 Bono has recorded a song with Alicia Keys as a part of the campaign to save lives in Africa.

The two have lent their voice to the song "Don't Give Up (Africa)", originally sung by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush. All the proceeds will go to AIDS and HIV charity Keep A Child Alive, according to Internet Movie Database. 

Keys says: "I love this song. And I love Bono. I really respect what he has done for Africa and how he has used his fame to do good in the world. I hope I can do half as much in my life. 

"I believe AIDS is the most important issue we face, because how we treat the poor is a reflection of who we are as a people. I urge everyone to recognise the extreme disaster Africa is facing and step up for the Motherland."


Holmes expecting baby boy

New York, Dec 3 (IANS) Mother-to-be actress Katie Holmes has sparked rumours that she is expecting a baby boy after she was spotted buying a huge selection of clothing supposedly for her expected baby.

Holmes, who is six months pregnant, was seen running around Los Angeles store Neiman Marcus with armfuls of items fit for a baby boy, reported hollywood.com. 

An onlooker said: "Katie bought loads of outfits. She went on a real spending spree. She was walking around the shops with her arms full of baby stuff and looked very pleased with herself."

 


Camilla tops 'Fascinating' list

Los Angeles, Dec 3 (IANS) British royal Camilla was named the most fascinating person of the year in America's top TV broadcaster Barbara Walters' annual list.

According to Hollywood.com, Walters placed Camilla above Tom Cruise, Lance Armstrong, child actress Dakota Fanning and singer Kanye West. 

Explaining why, Walters said: "She did not change the world as we know it, she did not cure a disease, nor win the Nobel Prize. What she did was love someone, with no demands and no deadline... I've met Camilla several times. In person, she is warm, down to earth and unassuming."

 


'Christmas Song' tops list

London, Dec 3 (IANS) The popular Christmas song "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire) has topped the list of the most-performed tunes of the new century.

According to contactmusic.com, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers compiled the list. The "Christmas Song", written by Robert Wells and Mel Torme, became a classic when Nat King Cole recorded it in 1946. It is still going strong 60 years later.

The top 10 in the list are: 1. "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire) 2."Santa Claus is coming to town" 3. "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" 4. "Winter wonderland" 5. "White Christmas" 6. "Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!" 7. "Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer" 8. "Jingle bell rock" 9. "I'll be home for Christmas" 10. "Little drummer boy." 


Clooney in spat with O'Reilly

New York, Dec 3 (IANS) George Clooney is in an ongoing spat with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly in promoting his movies.

According to pagesix.com, Clooney recently took jabs at O'Reilly over charity money for 9/11 and challenged him to debate him. He said, "I'll debate him right here, right now." 

O'Reilly who often criticises celebrities who lend their names for charity causes said: "After my dust-up with Clooney over 9/11, we had invited him on the show and he wouldn't accept or debate me anywhere else." 

But the issue seems to be coming up every time Clooney seems to be going on a promo tour. O'Reilly said, "I saw him in the lobby after 'Good Night and Good Luck' and told him I liked the movie. We had a nice conversation and shook hands, but the next day he was trashing me in order to get press. 

"Now he's got a new movie and he's doing it again. He brings it up all the time. A source close to him told me this is his strategy. Clooney is not a quality guy."

 


Foxx to star in political thriller

London, Dec 3 (IANS) Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx has signed to star in a political thriller called "The Kingdom".

According to ananova.com, Foxx will lead an elite team of counter terrorism investigators to track down those responsible for a bomb attack on US workers in the Middle East. 

The movie is based on a story by Peter Berg, who will also direct the movie. Michael Mann will serve as producer. The filming is to begin in May.

 


Coldplay's "X&Y" named best album

London, Dec 3 (IANS) The highly anticipated album by Coldplay "X&Y" has been named the best album of 2005 by Q magazine.

According to ananova.com, Gorillaz's "Demon Days" came in second, followed by "Employment" by Kaiser Chiefs and Oasis' "Don't Believe The Truth." 

Oasis' "The Importance Of Being Idle", Coldplay's "Fix You" and Kaiser Chiefs' "I Predict A Riot" were named best singles of the year.

 


Live 8 bosses upset with Nicole

London, Dec 3 (IANS) The Live 8 organisers are suing the company TrimSpa for spoiling the Live 8 concerts when they let an allegedly drunk spokesmodel, Anna Nicole Smith, at the Philadelphia show.

The organisers claim that the model and actress was intoxicated and "scantily clad" when she appeared for the Live 8 concert. In legal papers, the organisers said that they found Smith's behaviour "unbecoming" and "erratic".

 


Parker wants more 'Sex And The City'

According to contactmusic.com, the 40-year-old actress who is presently staying in London to promote her new movie "The Family Stone" has won two Golden Globes and one Emmy for her role as the New York columnist Carrie Bradshaw on the show.

She says: "I wouldn't be opposed to it in the future. But we would be quite old."

 


Kidman, Urban fuel pregnancy rumours

London, Dec 4 (IANS) The Oscar winning actress Nicole Kidman has fuelled rumours that she is pregnant after she was photographed talking with her parents while her boyfriend Keith Urban patted and stroked her stomach.

According to contactmusic.com, Kidman had adopted two children with her ex-husband Tom Cruise and has reportedly accepted Urban's marriage proposal a few weeks back. He sent a private jet to bring her parents from Australia to the US to meet his parents.

An onlooker said: "They certainly had something they were smiling about as they introduced their parents to each other. The whole time they were talking to her parents, Keith was rubbing her belly. They all had beaming smiles."

 


Stevie Wonder predicted Lennon murder

London, Dec 4 (IANS) Singer Stevie Wonder said he was not surprised by John Lennon's assassination because he always feared that Lennon's atheist beliefs would bring his demise.

According to contactmusic.com, Wonder was shocked when Mark David Chapman shot Lennon on the Dec 8, 1980. But he says the death was inevitable.

He says: "After he died I couldn't stop crying whenever I heard 'Imagine', but I wasn't surprised that he had been shot. The guy said he shot him because he didn't believe in Jesus and I remember when I heard 'Imagine', I thought, 'somebody is not going to like that.'"


Rolling Stones concert tickets sell out in 20 minutes

London, Dec 4 (IANS) Tickets for the Rolling Stones concert in London next year were sold out in just 20 minutes.

According to contactmusic.com, the phone lines became jammed when sales opened at 9 a.m. as fans tried frantically to book tickets. 

The Stones will play at London's newly revamped Wembley stadium. This is a part of the European leg of their "A Bigger Bang" tour. 

A spokesperson for the stadium says: "This is unheard of - the phones have not stopped ringing. We are thrilled that Rolling Stones would be performing at a venue Britain can be proud of. We think fans will find this as the best place to enjoy music in the country."


Cusack denies marriage rumours

New York, Dec 4 (IANS) The representatives for actor John Cusack have denied rumours that he is secretly married to actress Jodi Lyn O'Keefe.

According to pagesix.com, the rumours were being spread on the Internet. The representatives did not denounce other pieces of gossip claiming that Cusack was a philandering womaniser. The rep said: "John is not married."

There were other comments that Cusack's assistant was nicknamed "the dog catcher" because according to the site, "It was his job to go out and get girls for Johnny - as many as he could and as often as he was commanded." But the rep simply said: "We just don't comment on John's personal life."

 


'Cache' wins best-film prize at European Awards

Berlin, Dec 4 (DPA) "Cache", also known as "Hidden", a movie about the effects of colonialism on a Frenchman's life, scooped the major awards for best film, best director and best male actor at the European Film Awards in Berlin.

The film, directed by Austrian-born Michael Haneke, 63, follows the growing alarm of a man who is sent videos of himself, shot secretly by someone from the street. Daniel Auteuil of France won the best-actor award for his role.

"Cache" won five awards Saturday, as well as the European Critics' Award.

The film deals with France's repression of memories of the colonial war in Algeria. It was showered with prizes this year at the Cannes Film Festival and was a joint French, Austrian, German and Italian production. Haneke is based in Paris.

The annual awards are often described as Europe's answer to the Oscars, and honour the best of the last year in the European cinema industry.

German actress Julia Jentsch won best actress for her role in the German drama about a girl who stood up to the Nazis, "Sophie Scholl - The Last Days". She also won a People's Choice Award for the part.

Prizes were handed out in 17 categories at the star-studded gala ceremony in Berlin with 1,200 guests. Scottish actor Sean Connery, 75, famed for his James Bond roles, received a special lifetime achievement award.

 


Elvis Presley watches over Swayze

According to contactmusic.com, Swayze says that even though he is not a huge fan of Presley many people have compared him to Presley. He says: "Four different psychics have told me Elvis watches over me. 

"They call me with reports. I am not really a big Elvis fan but a lot of people have compared our sensuality. Whatever. I don't mind that."
