Carey says breakdown was her breakthrough

London, Oct 3 (IANS) Singer Mariah Carey says she is thankful for the breakdown she suffered four years ago because it saved her from a worse fate.

Carey had collapsed from exhaustion in 2001 and had to spend a long time convalescing in hospital, which she now blames on a rigorous, self-imposed work schedule, contactmusic.com reports.

She said: "My breakdown was my breakthrough. After my marriage ended, I worked myself into the ground. Eventually my body reminded me that I was human and I needed to create balance in my life."
