'Jothe Jotheyalli' faces no challenge from new releases
By R.G. Vijayasarathy,
Bangalore, Jan 12 "Jothe Jotheyalli" has completed 100
days in 12 centres and is the top Kannada film of the fortnight.
The top five Kannada films are:
1. "Jothe Jotheyalli" - Despite the release of many
big-budget films, it is still getting a good response from the
young audience.
2. "Mungaru Male" - This film has become a surprise hit,
with the youth making a beeline for it. The film features Ganesh,
a popular television anchor, in a pivotal role.
3. "Neelakanta" - The film is running into its fourth
week, but the response has been mixed. While the film has been
declared a big hit in north Karnataka, its performance
has not been impressive in Bangalore and Mysore. The songs and
actress Namitha are its major attractions.
4. "Sirivantha" - The film has completed 100 days in
Hubli and is running well in many semi-urban centres where it
has been released now. This Vishnuvardhan-starrer is a
big hit, considering its production costs and huge success in
north Karnataka and old Mysore. The family audience has given an
encouraging response to the film.
5. "Sixer" - The film, released in the first week of
2007, has opened well much to the surprise of trade circles.
Produced by Ramoji Rao, it launched a new star, Prajwal Devaraj,
son of actor Devaraj.

Youth response keeps 'Jothe...' album on top
By R.G. Vijayasarathy,
Bangalore, Jan 12 "Jothe Jotheyalli" is Harikrishna's first
outing as music director and his compositions are making waves
and topping music charts.
The top five Kannada albums are:
1. "Jothe Jotheyalli" - The film has completed 100 days
and the audio continues to appeal to young music lovers. "Oh
gunavanta", "Barthaare barthaare" and the title song
have become big hits. Debutant composer Harikrishna has struck
gold with the film.
2 "Mungaru Male" - The audio was doing well, even before
the film's release and NRI composer Mano Murthy has become the
toast of youngsters. "Anisuthidhe", "Onde
Ondu Saari" and "Araluthiru" have become quite popular.
3. "Sevanthi Sevanthi" - The music may well rule the
market longer than the film itself. The melodious compositions
by S.A. Raj Kumar are popular in rural areas. "Jaaji
Mallige Hoovu" is a chartbuster.
4. "Neelakanta" - 'Crazy Star' Ravichandran has composed
music for this film, which is doing a good business much to the
relief of its producer and the distributors. The
audio was received well. "Malla Malla" and "Ammammammo' have
become big hits.
5. "Ekadhantha" - The audio is slowly climbing up the
charts, thanks to its racy numbers. Guru Kiran's music and
beautiful lyrics have contributed to its success.
'Mungaru Male' leads among Kannada films
By R.G. Vijayasarathy
Bangalore, Jan 26 "Mungaru Male" overtakes "Jothe Jotheyalli" to
become this fortnight's leading Kannada film. The top five films
are:
1."Mungaru Male" - The film is into its third week and has
already crossed the collections of many of last year's super
hits. In Bangalore alone, it is expected to gross over
Rs.15 million. Ganesh, a popular TV anchor and comedian, has
become quite popular among youngsters thanks to this film.
2."Jothe Jotheyalli" - The film has completed 125 days and is
set to have a silver-jubilee run in Bangalore. Surviving all
competition, it still occupies the second slot in the
list.
3."Neelakanta" - It has entered its sixth week and the
collections are still satisfactory in northern Karnataka, but it
is not doing so well in other parts of the state. The songs
and Namitha's appeal are the USP of the film.
4."Sixer" - The film has introduced a new star, Prajwal Devaraj,
son of Kannada actor Devaraj. For a low-budget film, the
collections have been above average.
5."Sirivantha" - It has completed 100 days in some centres and
is still doing good business in interior areas. Vishnuvardhan's
performance is the film's main attraction.
