Originals versus remakes for Pongal
By Aparna Nath, Indo-Asian News Service
Chennai, Jan 15 (IANS) If two of the Pongal releases are originals, the other two are remakes from Telugu.
"Paramasivan" and "Paasakilikal" are based on original stories while "Aathi" and "Saravana" are remakes of two Telugu blockbusters. The common factor in three of the four films is actor Prakash Raj

Let's have a look at all the four releases:
"Aathi" (Director - Ramana): Ramana had the good fortune to direct Vijay in his first directorial venture - "Thirumalai" - which was a huge hit. After the successful "Gilli" and "Thirupachi", Vijay and Trisha are once again coming together in "Aathi", remake of the hit Telugu film "Athanakkade", which had Kalyanram, grandson of NTR, playing the male lead.
Vijay's father S.A. Chandrasekaran, who is celebrating his 25 years in the industry, is producing the film.
"Paramasivan" (Director - P. Vasu): After the stupendous success of "Chandramukhi" with Rajnitkanth, director P. Vasu is working for the first time with a young actor in "Paramasivan". The film that revolves around a young guy who fights the corrupt system by becoming Paramasivan has shades of "Anniyan".
Laila is paired with Ajith and Prakash Raj plays the role of a police officer. Malayalam actor Jayaram also has an important role in the film.
"Saravana" (Director - K.S. Ravi Kumar): Saravana is a remake of the successful Teja-Meera Jasmine starrer "Bhadra", which was an action-oriented entertainer. Prakash Raj has the same role that he did in "Bhadra".
Silambarasan and Jyothika are coming together after the successful "Manmadhan".
"Paasakilikal" (Director - Amritham): After two disastrous attempts, DMK supreme M. Karunanidhi is once again writing the story, screenplay and dialogues for "Paasakiligal". It has to be seen whether this film succeeds or not.
"Paasakilikal" is the story of two brothers and one sister played by Prabhu, Murali and Navya Nair. Vineeth also plays an important role in the film.
