'Sivappathikaram'
overtakes 'Varalaaru' in Tamil film race
By Aparna Nath,
Chennai, Nov 28 Ajith's "Varalaaru" is pushed to the third
place by Vishal's "Sivappathikaram" and Madhavan's "Rendu"
as "Sivappathikaram" took an extraordinary opening.
1. "Sivappathikaram" (Director Karu Palaniyappan) -
Vishal had scored a hat trick before "Sivappathikaram", so
expectations were high on this film. Naturally, the film took an
extraordinary opening. It is to be seen how it turns out later.

2. "Rendu" (Director Sundar
C) - "Rendu" is Madhavan's next release after the highly
successful "Thampi". It was with "Thampi" that Madhavan broke
into the B and C centres. So, filmgoers were curious about the
Madhavan and Sundar C combination.
3. "Varalaaru" (Director K.S. Ravi Kumar) - This is
turning out to be Ajith's biggest hit in the recent times.
4. "E" (Director Jannanathan) - The success of "E"
directed by Jannanathan, the national award-winning director of
"Iyarkai", shows there is an audience for good offbeat films in
Tamil also.
5. "Vettayadu Vilaiyadu" (Director Gowtham Menon) -
Neither the Diwali releases nor the films that came after that
could stop this film by Gowtham Menon. It is on its way to
celebrate 100 days.
Imman, the Tamil music director to watch
By Aparna Nath,
Chennai, Nov 28 Vidyasagar's new album "Sivappathikaram"
is doing quite well. With the film expected to do well, the
album may do even better in the course of next few weeks.
The top five Tamil albums are:
1. "Sivappathikaram" (Vidyasagar): "Atrai Thingal" sung
by Madhu Balakrishnan and Sujatha is the toast of the album,
which has a mix of folk, melody and 'dappan koothu'.
2. "E" (Srikant Deva): This album is one of the biggest
successes of Srikant Deva. "Theepori Parakum" sung by Tipu and
chorus is especially popular.
3. "Thiruvilayadal Aarambham" (D. Imman): Imman is slowly
becoming one of the music directors to watch for. "Ennamma Kannu"
by Karthik and Ranjith is a huge hit.
4. "Rendu" (Imman): Surprisingly the album has all the
songs of Harris Jayaraj from "Minnale". Yet, Imman's songs stand
out.
5. "Vallavan" (Yuvan Shankar Raja): "Loose Penne" sung by
Silambarasan is still a rage though the film is slowly on its
way out of the theatres.
Madhavan beats Vishal as 'Rendu' wins the race
By Aparna Nath,
Chennai, Dec 12 The verdict is out. Madhavan's action
comedy "Rendu" beats Vishal's "Sivappathikaram", contrary to all
expectations.
The top five Tamil films are:
1. "Rendu" - Director: Sundar C - "Rendu" is going to be
R. Madhavan's next triumph after the highly successful "Thampi".
Hats off to Sundar C for making a highly watchable comedy.
2. "Sivappathikaram" - Director: Karu Palaniyappan -
Though not a big hit like "Thimiru", "Sivappathikaram" is also
doing well for actor Vishal.
3. "Varalaaru" - Director: K.S. Ravi Kumar - Despite new
releases, Ajith's biggest hit in the recent times retains the
third position.
4. "E" - Director: Jannanathan - The film directed by
Jannanathan, the National Award winning director of "Iyarkai",
will soon complete 50 days. Among the Diwali releases, it holds
the second position after "Varalaaru".
5. "Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu" - Director: Gowtham Menon - The film
has completed 100 days, and runs on.
