Vijaykanth accuses AIADMK, DMK of 'sop politics'

Kancheepuram (Tamil Nadu), April 2 (IANS) Popular Tamil film star Vijaykanth, founder president of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, Sunday began his election campaign in the Kanchipuram district, lambasting both the AIADMK and DMK for promoting "free-gift culture" and "politics of lies".

Vijayakanth, who floated his party last September, will contest from the Vriddhachalam constituency, about 200 km south of here, while his party has fielded candidates in 140 of the 234 Tamil Nadu assembly seats going to the polls May 8.
Campaigning in Palavanthangal, he said he was not interested in "duping the people by making false promises" and accused the DMK of making "unrealistic" poll promises.
Appealing to the electorate to give his party a chance, Vijaykanth said: "Look at today's electoral scenario. Both the DMK and the AIADMK are vying with each other and churning out statements every day to win the minds and hearts of the people with attractive sops".
He also accused the DMK and the AIADMK of using their TV channels and other media in a biased and selective manner.
