Diwali bonanza for Tamil movie buffs
By Chitra Prakash, Indo-Asian News Service
Chennai, Oct 31 (IANS) Tamil movie buffs are in for a bonanza with the release of two megastar films and two Malayalam remakes this
Diwali.
Superstar Vijay, who is considered as successful as Rajnikanth, promises his customary masala fare in
"Sivakasi".
The hero's name in the film is same as that of the Tamil Nadu town famous for firecrackers. The film promoters are asking the viewers to expect 'fireworks' from the star.
Vikram, the national award-winning actor, who just made a big splash with
"Anniyan", will enact a different role in "Maja".
In the former, he performed a three-character, histrionic feat. In the latter, he will provide a "combo of action and comedy".
Vijay's father S.A. Chandrasekaran has directed "Sivakasi". As part of the film's pre-launch publicity, both visited Sivakasi and met the workers in the firecracker factories.
Prominent Malayalam filmmaker Shafi has directed "Maja". He is said to have learnt to speak, read and write Tamil in a short period for the film's production.
"Maja" is a remake of the hugely successful Malayalam film
"Thommanum Makkalum".
The other remake from Kerala to hit the screen on Diwali will be
"Kasturimaan", directed by Lohitdas. Meera Jasmine teams up with Prasanna in this film.
