I dream of making a film: Manish Malhotra (Interview)
Panaji, Dec 4 Designer Manish Malhotra, known as a trendsetter in the world of film fashion, had announced plans to make a Bollywood musical three years ago. But now he wants to work on a fresh script.
"It's been more than three years (since that plan was announced) and I think I want to work on something new and fresh and I hope I'll start working on it soon," Manish told IANS in an interview.
Asked about rumours that he intends to cast Shah Rukh Khan, he said: "I don't know as yet; however, getting to work with Shah Rukh will be an honour. Right now I can't say anything because first I will work on the characters and then I will go to the actors and beg them, 'please do the film'."
The delay has not bogged him down.
"I dream of making a film. I would love to direct a movie. I have a script ready, which is a musical. I was actually the first one to announce a musical film, but my work doesn't leave me with time in terms of movies, clothes, fashion shows and then my own label," he said.
"When I started off my label, the intention was to have a small label going on and start a film, but it just boomeranged," the designer added.
Manish shot to fame in Bollywood after designing clothes for Urmila Matondkar in "Rangeela". Since then there has been no looking back.
He has done fabulous designs for various stars in films like "Raja Hindustani", "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Dhadkan", "Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai", "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" and "Kal Ho Naa Ho".
Manish opened his flagship store in Dubai last year.
"We are right now having lots of stores and it's been three-and-a-half-years since my label has been established. I have really been working round the clock."
Tell him that Madhur Bhandarkar is making a film on the fashion world with Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut and Manish says it would be a great experience watching an outsider's view on the fashion world.
"I think it will be more interesting to see an outsider's perception. I'm sure Madhur will put more masala in it, whereas I will give just an actual picture which people might not be interested in.
"So it is always better to see another person's perception. Madhur is a fabulous director and I would love to see his film."
