Mammootty's Big B Malayalam film
Mammootty has glamorous personalities playing mother
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 24 Malayalam superstar Mammootty
is now getting glamour personalities, including acclaimed pop
singer Usha Uthup and former model Nafisa Ali, to play his
mother.
"In my last film 'Pothen Vava' Usha Uthup played my mother. Now
in 'Big B' Nafisa Ali is playing the role," Mammootty
told IANS from the sets of "Big B" in Kochi.
Former Miss India Nafisa Ali, 49, is acting in Malayalam films
for the first time. She has acted in eight Hindi and other
films, beginning with the acclaimed "Junoon". Nafisa, according
to Mammootty, is a bit scared because of the language.
"We are giving her enough support and now believe me she is
doing a fine job," said Mammootty, 53.
Ace cinematographer Amal Neerad, who was behind the camera for
Mammootty's earlier film "Black", is directing the film. This is
Neerad's first foray into direction.
"The film is all about action and suspense and is a thriller.
Nafisa is Mary John, an activist who takes care of children, and
I am one of her four adopted children. The film will do well,"
said a confident Mammootty.
'Kaiyoppu' tops among Malayalam films
By Paresh C. Palicha,
Kochi, Jan 24 Director Ranjith's "Kaiyoppu" and Jayaram
starrer "Anchil Oraal Arjunan" are new entrants to the list of
favourites with "Kaiyoppu" at the top spot because of its
thematic beauty.
The top five Malayalam films are:
1."Kaiyoppu" - This is a small film produced and directed
by Ranjith with Mammootty portraying a struggling writer,
suffering from a writer's block. This film is on top for its
excellent theme.
2."Anchil Oraal Arjunan" - After the debacle of "Kanaka
Simhasanam" actor Jayaram tries to strike back with the film.
Scripted by T.A. Razak, the film promises some substance.
3."Baba Kalyani" - Mohanlal's cop saga continues to grab
viewership.
Critics may have had problems with it but the masses have lapped
up the movie.
4."Palunku" - Mammootty dons the garb of a farmer who
tries to get accustomed to an urban lifestyle. Blessy impresses
with his directorial skills.
5."Notebook" - Director Rosshan Andrrews' efforts to show
the trauma of teenagers growing up in a boarding school may not
have gone down well with the masses. But it has managed to
generate a buzz.
'Changatikootam' chirps its way to the top
By Paresh C. Palicha,
Kochi, Jan 24 The songs of Blessy's "Palunku" have made it
to the list of top five favourites but haven't succeed in
dislodging "Notebook" from the top spot.
The top five Malayalam songs are.
1."Changatikootam" - Film: "Notebook"; Music: Mejo
Joseph; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Afsal, Vidhu Prathap,
Rimy Tomy and Sayanora. This chirpy song of campus camaraderie
still tops the charts.
2."Pottu thotta sundari" - Film: "Palunku"; Music: Mohan
Sithara; Lyrics:
Kaithapram; Singers: Jayachandran, Jassie Gift, Sheela Mani,
Aswin A.S. and Parvathi Sonam. Blessy's middle-of-the-road
themes always give ample scope for songs. This number is proof
enough.
3."Kai niraye" - Film: "Baba Kalyani"; Music: Alex Paul;
Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singer: G. Venugopal. Composer Alex Paul
and Venugopal, who came together to do a film song for the first
time, have hit the right chord.
4."Mannathe Velli" - Film: "Palunku"; Music: Mohan
Sithara; Lyrics:
Kaithapram; Singer: K.J. Yesudas. The veteran singer lends his
magic to the song.
5."Hrudayavum" - Film: "Notebook"; Music: Mejo Joseph;
Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Vineeth Sreenivasan and Jyotsna.
This song still holds its position in the list.
