Mammootty's 'Karutha..' is number
one Malayalam film
By Paresh C. Palicha,
Kochi, Nov 28 Superstar Mammootty's new film "Karutha Pakshikal"
by veteran director Kamal tops the list of Malayalam films this
fortnight.
The top five Malayalam films are:
1. "Karutha Pakshikal": Mammootty, in a realistic
character after a long while under Kamal's baton, puts the film
on the top of this list.
2. "Classmates": The
youth-oriented film still holds its position, with director Lal
Jose hogging the limelight.
3. "Vasthavam": This Prithviraj film has received a good
response. This is a boost for young director M. Padmakumar.
4. "Pothen Vava": This seems to be the last Mammootty
film with a comic streak, as his next couple of films are
serious in mood.
5. "Chakkaramuthu": The makers of this film changed the
title to "Chakkarapottan" as well as the climax. But whether
this has improved the box-office returns of this Dileep film is
debatable.
'Ara Pavan' is Malayalam song of the fortnight
By Paresh C. Palicha,
Kochi, Nov 28 The songs of "Vasthavam" and "Karutha
Pakshikal" make an entry into this list of Malayalam
chartbusters.
The top five Malayalam songs of this fortnight are:
1. "Ara Pavan": Film: 'Vasthavam"; Music: Alex Paul;
Lyrics: Gireesh Puthencherry; Singers: Vidhu Prathap and Rimi
Tomy. The melodious, romantic song picturised on Prithviraj and
Kavya Madhavan is a clear winner for the traditional touch given
by director M. Padmakumar.
2. "Mazhayil": Film: "Karutha Pakshikal"; Music: Mohan
Sithara; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singer: Manjari. Kamal's films
always have special place for songs. This song picturised on
Meena has the familiar Kamal feeling.
3. "Ente Khalbili": Film: "Classmates"; Music: Alex Paul;
Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Sujatha and Vineeth Sreenivasan.
The music of this film has stayed with the listener as the film
continues to be on a record-breaking spree.
4. "Vave Makane": Film: "Pothen Vava"; Music: Alex Paul;
Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Madhu Balakrishnan and Usha Uthup.
The song underscores the film's dominant mother-son sentiment.
5. "Karineela Kannilenthedee": Film: "Chakkaramuthu";
Music: M. Jayachandran; Lyrics: Gireesh Puthencherry; Singers:
Vineeth Sreenivas and Sujatha. The film may not have done well
as expected, but its songs still hold listeners.
