'Lion' songs a roaring success in Kerala

Kochi, Feb 6 (IANS) Even as songs from the film "Lion" do a roaring business in Kerala, a tune in "Achanurangatha Veedu" marks singer Jassie Gift's lilting comeback to the musical arena.

The top five Malayalam songs are:

1. "Sundari Onnu" - Film: "Lion"; music: Deepak Dev; lyrics: Kaithapram; singers: Udit Narayan and Shwetha. Superstition may be the reason Dileep uses Udit Narayan's voice in most of his films. Shwetha is the daughter of veteran singer Sujatha.

2. "Kunninte Mele" - Film: "Achanurangatha Veedu"; music: Alex Paul; lyrics: Vayalar Sharath Chandra Varma; singer: Jassie Gift. Gift, who disappeared from the scene for a while, makes an emphatic comeback with this song.

3. " - Film: "Tanmantra"; music: Mohan Sithara; "Mele Vellithinkal lyrics: Kaithapram; singers: Karthik and Meenu. The songs of the film are well integrated with the story.

4. "Pandimelam" - Film: "Rajamanikyam"; music: Alex Paul; lyrics: Gireesh Puthenchery: singer: Pradeep Pallurathy. Alex Paul has become hot property in the Malayalam film industry by giving a spate of hits in recent times.

5. "Idaluranu Veena" - Film: "Tanmantra"; music: Mohan Sithara; lyrics: Kaithapram; singer: P. Jayachandran. Music of this film shows how songs can be used to enhance the holistic feel of a film.  

  

'Lion' is king among Malayalam films

Kochi, Feb 6 (IANS) Wild animals dominate Kerala's cinema theatres this fortnight with "Lion" naturally stealing a march over "Tiger". 

The top five Malayalam films are:

1. "Lion" - This is political thriller from the team of actor Dileep and director Joshiy. An unprecedented opening has taken the film to the top.

2. "Rajamanikiyam" - This film is sure to complete 100 days in theatres, which is a rare feat considering the audience's fickle nature.

3. "Tanmatra" - It is one of the most discussed films of recent times. The tact with which director Blessy has tackled Alzheimer's disease has touched the intelligentsia.

4. "The Tiger" - Suresh Gopi plays a suave cop for the umpteenth time. Only nostalgic appeal has sustained this film.

5. "Achanurangatha Veedu" - Director Lal Jose gets realistic with this film. The story of a converted Christian played by Salim Kumar won kudos for bold experimentation in theme and casting.
