Mammootty's Palunku and Mohanlal's Baba kalyani is at Top 2 :
Mohanlal starrer 'Baba Kalyani' is the winner
By Paresh C. Palicha,
Kochi, Dec 27 Another festive season is upon us and
filmmakers are trying to cash in on the festive mood of
moviegoers. Three biggies have released but Mohanlal's "Baba
Kalyani" tops them all.
The top five Malayalam films are:
1. "Baba Kalyani" - Mohanlal plays a cop heading the
Anti-Terrorist Cell. Director Shaji Kailas has given a stylish
makeover to his character. Critics may complain about the
script's weakness, but the film is a treat for Mohanlal fans,
which the box office collections testify.
2. "Palunku" - Director Blessy brings out a
middle-of-the-road film yet again where Mammootty plays a
farmer, who migrates to the city to give his daughters better
education. "Palunku" has surely struck the right chord with the
audience.
3. "Smart City" - This is another typical thriller
starring Suresh Gopi that is directed by newcomer B.
Unnikrishnan.
4. "Notebook" - Director Rosshan Andrrews tries to do an
adolescent film with a bunch of newcomers. The film has good
music and good performances but the story is a let
down.
5. "Yes Your Honour" - Actor Sreenivasan continues to
hold his ground despite strong competition.
'Notebook' songs rule Malayalam charts
By Paresh C. Palicha,
Kochi, Dec 27 Songs of the film "Notebook", which is about
problems faced by students, rule the Malayalam charts this
fortnight.
The top five Malayalam songs are:
1. "Changatikootam" - Film: "Notebook"; Music: Mejo
Joseph: Lyrics: Sarath Varma: Singers: Afsal, Vidhu Prathap,
Rimy Tomy and Sayanora. A peppy song is a prerequisite in any
campus movie and "Changatikootam" fulfils the requirement.
2. "Kai Niraye" - Film: "Baba Kalyani"; Music: Alex Paul;
Lyrics: Sarath Varma. The film had no scope for songs but this
one sneaked in and is doing well.
3. "Hridhayavum" - Film: "Notebook"; Music: Mejo Joseph;
Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Vineeth Sreenivasan and Jyotsna.
Mejo Joseph is a new kid on the block and has
done a good job in his first outing as a composer.
4. "Kannipenne" - Film: "Oruvan"; Music: Ousepachan;
Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Manjari and Ousepachan. This film
has had a limited release, but its music has
caught on.
5. "Ente Khalbile" - Film: "Classmates"; Music: Alex
Paul; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Sujatha and Vineeth
Sreenivasan. It is difficult to elbow out this song from the
charts.
