Going beyond the two Ms of Malayalam cinema
By Paresh C. Palicha, Indo-Asian News Service
Kochi, Nov 5 (IANS) Dileep's performance in "Chaandupottu" proves that there is hope beyond Mohanlal and Mammootty - the two Ms of Malayalam cinema. The top five films of the fortnight are:
1. "Chaandupottu": This film has reaffirmed our faith in Dileep. He should learn a lesson from this movie - that he has found success whenever he has done his own thing, without following any trends or stereotypes.
2. "Naran": The revival of Mohanlal has begun. This film marks a new beginning for the natural actor, with a couple of films with unusual themes lined up in the near future.
3. "Nerariyan CBI": The other half of the two big Ms, Mammootty, keeps his star power intact. He has single-handedly pulled off a hit with this film.
4. "Bharathchandran IPS": A dream comeback for Suresh Gopi. Debutant director Renji Panikar, who formed the backbone of successful Suresh Gopi films as a scriptwriter in the past, has done a fabulous job.
5. "Oraal": An offbeat film starring Mukesh and Shriya Reddy directed by newcomer Kukku had a limited release.
Good response to Ramzan audios in Kerala
By Paresh C. Palicha, Indo-Asian News Service
Kochi, Nov 5 (IANS) The music of Ramzan releases "Boyfriennd" and "Ananthabhadram" is catching on. Here go the top five Malayalam albums:
1. "Ramzan Nilavotha": Film: "Boyfriennd"; Music: M. Jayachandran. Lyrics: Kaithapram. Singer: K.J. Yesudas. Director Vinayan has pulled off a casting coup of sorts by making the veteran singer appear on camera to render this song. This adds to the novelty of this song.
2. "Malamalooya": Film: "Ananthabhadram"; Music: M.G. Radhakrishnan; Lyrics: Gireesh Puthenchery; Singer: Kalabhavan Mani. This is a typical Mani song with a folk touch.
3. "Omane": Film: "Boyfriennd"; Music: M. Jayachandran; Lyrics: R.K. Damodaran; Singers: Sujatha and Nishad. The popularity of this song reasserts the Malayali's love for melody.
4. "Omanappuzha": Film: "Chaandupottu"; Music: Vidyasagar; Lyrics: Vayalar Sharathchandra Varma; Singer: Vineeth Sreenivasan. The unusual picturisation of this song has worked wonders.
5. "Velmuruka": Film: "Naran"; Music: Deepak Dev; Lyrics: Kaithapram; Singer: M.G. Sreekumar. Mohanlal films have set a trend for incorporating a song, to which his fans can dance. This song just follows that trend.
