Actress Padmapriya
apologises to Malayalam dubbing artistes
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 6 South
Indian actress Padmapriya Tuesday apologised to dubbing artistes
in Kerala following their protests over her comment that she was
ashamed of having her voice dubbed for Malayalam films.
"My statement to a TV channel was never meant to hurt them. I
respect every human being's emotions. I apologise if my
statement hurt the dubbing artistes," Padmapriya told reporters
here.
Padmapriya was forced to hold a press conference after the
Association of Dubbing Artistes decided Monday to boycott the
actress in future.
Association general-secretary Bhagyalekshmi said Padmapriya's
statement "hurt" the artistes, who said they would boycott the
actress unless she rendered a public apology.
In hit film "Karuthapakshigal", which got Padmapriya a few
awards, she did not have to use a dubbing artiste as she played
a Tamilian and could say her own dialogues.
"Voice is an important aspect for an actress and I am now
learning Malayalam. As soon as possible, I will dub for my own
films. As an actress I feel incomplete when someone else dubs
for me," the actress said.
Padmapriya, who is a rising star in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada
films, has acted with ace superstars Mammootty, Mohanlal and
Suresh Gopi in Kerala.
Padmapriya defends ageing Malayalam superstars
Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 6 Young southern Indian actress
Padmapriya who has acted with three of Kerala's 40-plus
superstars - Mammootty, Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi - says age is
not an impediment for actors.
"These superstars handle their characters so well and they are
sensible and sensitive actors. Every fruit has its own flavour
and an apple cannot replace an orange," the actress told
reporters here.
"Amitabh Bachachan is past 65 and still the most sought after
star in Bollywood. This is true in Hollywood and the Malayalam
film industry," she added.
Last week Padmapriya won the Atlas Film Critics' best actress
award for her performance in two Malayalam films - "Karuthapakshigal"
and "Yes Your Honour".
On her forthcoming projects, the actress said she has a film
opposite Suresh Gopi to be directed by Shaji Kailas.
"The shooting for the film with Mohanlal, 'Paradeshi', is over
and it should be a great film. Likewise, I also have a few Tamil
films signed up," said Padmapriya, who began her career with
Kannada films while pursuing an MBA degree.
Padmapriya, who is in her 20s, has acted with the 50-plus
Mammootty and with Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi, both of who are
nearing 50.
I gel well with mature
actors: Padmapriya
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 19 Darling of the Malayalam
filmgoers, Padmapriya, Sunday said she gels well with mature
actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal.
"I feel they are more mature and it is the directors who decide
the cast when it comes to a film and I have no problem acting
with superstars," said Padmapriya while interacting with
reporters here, after her latest Malayalam film "Yes Your Honour"
was screened.
Padmapriya, in her early twenties, has played the
lead opposite to ageing superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal, who
are more than twice her age.
"Pierce Brosnan played the role of James Bond first when he was
51. Age does not matter and it is the character that is
important and it is the same everywhere," said
Padmapriya whose latest film is opposite versatile
Malayalam actor Sreenivasan who is also above 50.
She broke into Malayalam films starring opposite Mammootty in
the mega-hit film "Kazhcha" and since then Mammootty considers
Padmapriya as his "lucky charm".
She has also acted alongside Mohanlal in the film "Vadukumnathan".
"Don't worry, my next film is with Prthiviraj, a young
Kerala actor," said the actress.
