'Yes, Your Honour' is crowned top film
By Paresh C. Palicha,
Kochi, Dec 13 Actor Sreenivasan's "Yes, Your Honour" and
Prithviraj starrer "Pakal" make it to the list of the top box
office Malayalam hits.
The top five Malayalam films are:
1. "Yes, Your Honour" - Sreenivasan plays a
struggling junior lawyer in his inimitable style in this film
directed by V.M. Vinu. Sreenivasan's performance helps it climb
to the
top spot.
2. "Karutha Pakshikal" - Kamal's story and
direction gives Mammootty a character to which he does
full justice. There are expectations that he will win a couple
of awards
for his performance in the film.
3. "Vasthavam" - The film has stayed steady in its
position due to Prithviraj's performance.
4. "Classmates" - This may be the last time that this
film appears on this list. But it has got the distinction of
staying put for nearly three months.
5. "Pakal" - Prithviraj plays a TV journalist
covering farmers' suicides in the state. Directed by M.A. Nishad,
it gives deserved treatment to a relevant subject.
'Chellam' tops Malayalam songs list
By Paresh C. Palicha,
Kochi, Dec 13 This list remains largely unchanged except
for one song from "Yes, Your Honour", which tops the chart.
The top five Malayalam songs are:
1. "Chellam" - Film: "Yes, Your Honour"; Music: Deepak
Dev; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Yesudas and Chitra. The song
sequences of the film have caught critical
attention as well-mounted montages. This song provides a
striking example on the screen.
2. "Ara Pavan" - Film: "Vasthavam"; Music: Alex Paul;
Lyrics: Gireesh Puthencherry; Singers: Vidhu Pratap and Rimi
Tomy. The old-world charm of this song appeals to a
wide audience.
3. "Ente khalbili" - Film: "Classmates"; Music: Alex Paul;
Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Sujata and Vineeth Sreenivasan.
This song is surely the biggest hit of the year.
4. "Mazhayil" - Film: "Karutha Pakshikal"; Music: Mohan
Sithara; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singer: Manjari. There is bound
to be controversy with director Kamal saying that
he would remove the songs when he submits the film for the
awards as he had done with his previous "Perumazhakalam".
5. "Karineela kannilenthedee" - Film: "Chakkaramuthu".
Music: M. Jayachandran; Lyrics: Gireesh Puthencherry; Singers:
Vineet Sreenivas and Sujata. This is the sole M.
Jayachandran song in the list.
